Sightseeing
Zlatibor has become a renowned summer and winter tourist hotspot with the longest tourist tradition amongst Serbia’s mountains, as well as an established climatic health center located at 1000m above sea level. It is known for a high average of sunny days per year, its continental and Mediterranean climate and air currents, unpolluted air, clear springs, idyllic small rivers and streams, forests full of firs, pines and spruces and spacious fragrant meadows, hospitality of its people and beautiful ski slopes.
During winter, Zlatibor as a ski-center welcomes both beginners and champions of the winter sports, while during the summer season, cycling, hiking and walking are very popular activities and numerous cultural and artistic events take place. There are numerous walking paths which lead to Čigota, Rzav Canyon, Gradina, Oko, Crni Vrh and Ribničko Lake. Traditional wooden houses have been preserved in the village of Sirogojno, in the museum under the open sky, while Sirogojno’s knitters are famous for their hand knitted woolen sweaters. This is just a piece of what Zlatibor and its surroundings have to offer.
Zlatibor is well-known as a ski center. Beginner skiers and children will enjoy the gentle slopes of Obudojevica, while more experienced skiers will opt to go to Tornik and make use of its slopes. Obudojevica is an area for recreation and winter sports with a 250m long ski lift and several baby ski lifts in the very center of Zlatibor, just 200m down the street from the Apartment de La Falaise. Renting skis, snowboards, sleds, snowmobiles and other ski equipment is possible on the tracks.
Ski center Tornik is located 9 km from the center of Zlatibor. The four ski trails (Čigota, Tornik, Ribnica and Zmajevac) are ideal for slalom, giant slalom and super giant slalom skiing and are connected by three ski-lifts. In the central part of Zlatibor there are slopes for cross-country and biathlon skiing, which are considered to be among the most beautiful in Europe due to their visibility and layout. Due to terrain configuration, and ideal conditions for Nordic skiing and biathlon, numerous national and international competitions are being held here. The most modern six-seat lift, with capacity of 3000 skiers per hour, the speed of five meters per second, with 107 seats and 1850m long had been installed. The departure station is at an altitude of 1110m and climbs to the top of Tornik (1496m above sea level).

Zlatibor is well-known as a ski center. Beginner skiers and children will enjoy the gentle slopes of Obudojevica, while more experienced skiers will opt to go to Tornik and make use of its slopes. Obudojevica is an area for recreation and winter sports with a 250m long ski lift and several baby ski lifts in the very center of Zlatibor, just 200m down the street from the Apartment de La Falaise. Renting skis, snowboards, sleds, snowmobiles and other ski equipment is possible on the tracks.
Ski center Tornik is located 9 km from the center of Zlatibor. Tall, hundred years old pines, vast flowery meadows, wavy hills and old log cabins are just some of the motifs in a lively landscape of this, as many people think, most beautiful Zlatibor’s village.
In the center of the village surrounded by tall pine trees, some of them half a century old, there is a log church, dedicated to prophet Ilija, built in 1821. The legend says that the church was erected in one night and that villagers of Dobroselice transported the whole wooden church from the nearby hill Crkvine, using horse-drawn carriage, because Turks were planning to burn down the church the following morning. Because of the age and architectural uniqueness the church is under special state protection and has a status of a cultural good.

Gostilje is one of the most beautiful villages in the world. Impressive images of waterfalls and water jets falling from about 20 meters height, sovereignly dominate this area. The whole area around the waterfall is a small oasis of untouched nature. Take advantage of your visit to Gostilja to buy some delicious cheese and honey from the locals.
The Stopića Cave, on the left bank of the Prištavica river, is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Western Serbia, just 19 kilometers from Zlatibor, on the way to Sirogojno.
The cave entrance, at 711 meters above sea level, is 18 meters high and 35 meters wide. It is a river cave as the Trnavski stream flows through it. Its main attraction is a 10 meters high underground waterfall and it boasts with amazing inter pools, some of which are even 7 meters deep.
The limestone layer in the cave dates from the Triassic period and is more than 100m thick. Several hundred meters of the cave, starting at the entrance, are open for tourist visits, including the Light Hall, the Dark Hall and the Great Hall with Pools. 230The Stopića Cave, on the left bank of the Prištavica river, is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Western Serbia, just 19 kilometers from Zlatibor, on the way to Sirogojno.
The cave entrance, at 711 meters above sea level, is 18 meters high and 35 meters wide. It is a river cave as the Trnavski stream flows through it. Its main attraction is a 10 meters high underground waterfall and it boasts with amazing inter pools, some of which are even 7 meters deep.
The limestone layer in the cave dates from the Triassic period and is more than 100m thick. Several hundred meters of the cave, starting at the entrance, are open for tourist visits, including the Light Hall, the Dark Hall and the Great Hall with Pools. Banjska Stena is the most visited viewpoint in the National Park Tara and it is breathtakingly beautiful. At 1065m above sea level, Banjska Stena is a panoramic viewpoint from which you can see the Canyon of Drina River, Lake Perućac and majestic cliffs. It’s located just 6 km from Mitrovac and rather easy to reach. Driving straight from Mitrovac for about 2 km, you will see signboards for Banjska Stena in English. You can either drive very close to the top or hike. The hike will take approximately 1.5 hours to reach the viewpoint.

Absolutely worth visiting during your stay in Zlatibor is the nearby Lake Ribničko, located just 4 km from the center. The Zlatibor Gold Gondola Lift, connects the center of Zlatibor with the ski center of Tornik, via Lake Ribničko, where a stopover station is located, so make sure to make a stop and enjoy the lake prior to reaching Tornik or on your way down. Do not miss it.
Special charm to this beautiful canyon gives the curving meanders of the river Uvac. The valley of the Uvac river is famous for its gorge, Kanjon Uvca (the Uvac Gorge), the Uvac Special Nature Reserve and the thriving colony of reintroduced griffon vulture, one of the 172 species of birds that live in the wild area of the natural reserve. Uvac
Special charm to this beautiful canyon gives the curving meanders of the river Uvac. The valley of the Uvac river is famous for its gorge, Kanjon Uvca (the Uvac Gorge), the Uvac Special Nature Reserve and the thriving colony of reintroduced griffon vulture, one of the 172 species of birds that live in the wild area of the natural reserve. Moreover, 24 different types of fish and 219 plants are found here. The reserve located in the Zlatibor district is truly breathtaking and a must-see.

This villa is the only building in the center of Zlatibor, which is declared a cultural monument by the Monuments Protection Institute. The Villa of the lawyer Aleksandar Pavlović was initially named "Malgré Andrée" ("Despite Andrée"), in honor of a Frenchwoman, Madame Andrée, Mr. Pavlović's wife. She did not want her husband to build a villa on the remote and "wild" Zlatibor, as if she anticipated the turbulent times ahead. It turned out that Madame Andrée was definitely right. After the Second World War, in the changed socio-political system, the villa was expropriated, constantly changing owners ever since: it was proclaimed "Tito’s Villa", since Josip Broz Tito visited Zlatibor and this villa numerous times, as evidenced by numerous photographs, some of which are prominent in the exhibition space of the restaurant itself.
Today, the villa has been renovated and preserved in its original form, and with its new purpose, as a museum-restaurant, it continues to preserve history and gives all its visitors the opportunity to peek into part of its past and hear an unusual and intriguing story about this building. The specificity of this restaurant is reflected in the "reconstruction" of specialties that were served on various occasions to Tito and his guests.

Restaurant Mačkat, located just 13 km from Zlatibor, in the nearby village of Mačkat, is an excellent local restaurant with traditional Serbian cuisine. Everything is fresh and delicious; cold appetizers, cheese and kajmak, pork and beef prosciuto, homemade bread and lamb or beef stew, barbecue, fish, all kinds of salads, deserts, etc. but above all, I highly recommend their lamb roast meat! An absolute must!

Everything is fresh and delicious; cold appetizers, cheese and kajmak, pork and beef prosciuto, homemade bread and lamb or beef stew, barbecue, fish, all kinds of salads, deserts, etc. but above all, I highly recommend their lamb roast meat! An absolute must!
