Our Jordan :)

Our favourite tourist spots

Yes, you can read about those spots in every travel guide. But besides Petra and Wadi Rum there are a lot of other amazing spots in Jordan. After living here for a while now, here comes a list from our very own favourite spots!
The north of Jordan is definitely underestimated, but a must see in our opinion. Especially in spring you can see a very different side of Jordan with dark green landscapes and loads of blossoms. Umm Qais itself offers an amazing views over Jordan, Palestine and Syria - a very special feeling!

Neighbourhoods

Where to go in Amman and why :)
Jabal Al Lweibdeh is the artistic neighbourhood of Amman. Originally one of Amman's oldest neighbourhoods it is still one of the places to be. You will find a lot of Art Galleries (mostly without any entrance fee) like the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts, Darat al Funun, Dar al And ... and countless artistic coffee shops.

City advice

Getting around

Riding taxis in Amman

Taxis in Amman are cheap, but often a hassle. Especially for tourists without any knowledge of Arabic. Always ask the drivers to turn on the taxameter! They are by law not allowed to drive without. If they offer you to drive you someplace for a fixed price, you are ususally overcharged! Starting fee of the taxameter is 0,35 JOD and miminum fee to pay is 1 JOD (even is the actual fare is under that amount). A short taxi ride inside of the City Center should not cost more than 1-2 JOD.
Getting around

Riding taxis for FEMALES

Amman in general is very western and safe, but most of the taxis are a different world with different rules. Safe yourself a lot of trouble and always sit in the back seat! If you're sitting in the front seat there's the chance of getting caught into a very weird conversation with questions to your family status and you might get a proposal. Beside annoying conversations you're also risking being touched inappropiately. Even if you're 3 woman - get comfy together in the back :) But if you're riding together with a male person, he should sit in the front seat out of respect.
Don't miss

Friday market (Suq Il Jumaa)

Amman's biggest flea market ist taking place starting every thursday afternoon until Friday afternoon at "Ras Al Ain". Every taxi driver knows "Friday Market" or "Suq Il Jumaa" and will drop you off directly in front of the market. The market is full of second hand clothes and other items you need (or don't need) for daily life. The market is always crowded with Jordanians and expats on the hunt for the best new pieces. If you're looking for a "real" Jordan experience , Friday market is your destination!
