Neighbourhoods

Historically in Lancashire, Orrell was a centre of the coal mining industry, though today no evidence of the area's industrial past is present.
Sport
The area is the home of South Lancashire & Cheshire Division 2 side Orrell Rugby Union Football Club. The senior and junior academy sides of Wigan RLFC rugby league club play their home games at Edge Hall Road.Orrell left Edge Hall Road at the end of the 2006–07 season and began playing at St John Rigby College.
The Orrell Otters Football Club currently ply their trade in the South Lancs Counties Second Division after winning the Third Division championship in their debut season, and are also the current Houghton Memorial Cup holders after winning the trophy in 2010.

The stag is a reasonable local pub that also does great pizzas and at a very reasonable cost. Just 8 minutes walk from the property so easy to get to.

This place is a gin and real ale bar, very modern and worth a look if you want to get out for a quiet drink. They also do food including tapas style selection of small bites that are yummy. This is a short 10 minute walk from the house and well worth the walk, it helps burn off the calories from the tapas and beer.

Local hospitals
Wigan Royal Albert hospital is close and a short drive from my place (10-15 min) by public transport about 30 -45 minutes door to door depending on time of day. From Orrell Moor Road, Holgate bus stop the bus number 352 takes you into Wigan town centre. The hospital is approximately 15-20 minute walk from here.
