This is my favourite restaurant in Oslo! Small, intimate premises in what used to be a biker bar. The chef is Islandic and formerly worked on THE best restaurant in Oslo (Ylajali, closed in December 2015 sadly). This is Icelandic, Asian and Nordic gourmet food in one. The ambience is easy-going, but the staff is knowledgable and the food is stuff you've never tasted before. I'm quickly approaching 10 visits...

Åpent Bakeri is a chain of really good bakeries in Oslo. The first one opened about ten years ago and became an instant hit because of their uncompromising take on baked goods. Their cinnamon buns are amazing, and even though they've expanded, the place is still as good. This is the bakery me and my girlfriend visit because the surrounding area is so beautiful. It's in a quiet, rich area, with old houses and a fountain close-by.

As a food lover I've been to my share of food markets, or food halls, around the world. Nothing beats this one. The chicken place, Stangeriet, has amazing food, but my favourite is the place called Ma Poule. Their duck confit sandwich is affordable, but so, so good! They also have restaurants for every taste, a good butcher, a fish market etc. Everything you need, but some of the places are kind of pricy.

For the movie lovers, this place is a hidden gem. This was the biggest positive surprise for me when I moved to Oslo, with a lineup of everything from niche cinema to old amazing movies. Check out their lineup if you want a cinematic experience. Their largest theater is also equipped with perfect sound, screens and everything for the movie lover.
