A visitor can get the most out of a visit to the Peanut Patch if they include the tour that is held on Tuesday mornings at 10. That tour gives a solid and interesting background of the history of the peanut industry in Arizona and the.development of this site. The Peanut Patch is a hopping business with lots of edible goodies and gift items. The fudge section of this store is a find for fudge lovers. The selection of peanuts is huge - I never knew there was such a variety of peanuts.. A corner of the shop is devoted to dates, another local product. A special feature of the shop is the built-in post office in which orders of gift packages are processed and sent out.

Please call for reservations during the warmer months "What you will see here is a remnant town which stood larger than Yuma in 1878. Her weather beaten buildings remain great day trip in the lower Colorado river in an area little changed from the 1800's. The mills stand silent, housing original boiler, stamp mill, and elevator, as if tomorrow they will awaken to the thunderous roar of steel crushing rock. The boardwalks still creak, the church bell rings out, the five saloons just await the story of their last shootout. Over 50 building in 3 areas are now open, with more history being added. April 15 through September you will need to call for hours. October 1st through April 30th we are open 7 days a week.

We are the Museum Activity and Heritage Center for the United States Army Yuma Proving Ground. The most common comment we hear from our guests is that they had no idea. They had no idea such a nice museum was out here and they had no idea how much the Yuma Proving Ground has done over the years. We are located in Building 2 on the Colonel George Howard Cantonment area within YPG. This is a 14,000 square foot facility that covers our history from General George Patton's WWII training area known as the Desert Training Center to the present. Located in the former Post Headquarters building, we have fourteen exhibit galleries with a wide variety of information presented in many different formats. A small theater shows a 27 minute film about YPG and two of our galleries are commemorations of 9-11 and the 50th Commemoration of the War in Vietnam. There are security requirements to get on post, so stop by the visitor control center on Imperial Dam Road before coming on post. They will want to see your Drivers License, the Registration for your vehicle along with proof of insurance. If you visit on a Friday, the VSS is closes, so have the Security guard at the Howard Access Control Point check these items and issue your visitor pass.

The Heritage Area has a lot of offer in a small area centered around the former ferry and riverboat landing on the Colorado River (hence the name "Yuma Crossing"). It's not just one attraction but a whole group of different historic sites. I recommend starting at the Visitor Information Center on N. 4th Avenue to learn about all the points of interest and plan your visit. The Info Center is located at the entrance to the Colorado River State Historic Park (fee) so that might be your first stop- to see the restored Quartermaster Depot. It's possible to walk from the Info Center on the paved trail along the Colorado River to Gateway Park, Riverside Park and the Territorial Prison State Historic Park, or venture even further to the East and West Wetlands areas. There is a beach for swimming/wading, a playground, and some good fishing spots. Many educational signs throughout the Heritage Area explain the significance of the various sites. There is a restored steam locomotive on display next to the Garden Inn Hotel, and the Yuma Territory Live Steamers operate a miniature train ride on 2 weekends per month at Riverside Park (cooler months of the year). The historic downtown Main Street is just a few blocks away from the river and offers restaurants and shopping as well as public art. There are restored adobe residences in the downtown area as well and also small museums like the Sanguinetti House and Yuma History Museum. Nearby the Armed Forces Park honors our Veterans.

Located within West Wetlands Park near the "lake"...this playground is a must visit for kids. There are so many levels and structures for the kids to be constantly climbing on...they could stay here forever. The structure is made out of wood/plastic composite so the structure wasn't burning hot allowing the kids to run around freely during 100+ degrees. There are swings and a sand pit adjacent and seating for watchful parents.

Great hike and scenery. The trail starts from the parking area is unimproved (gravel), walk a mile and then starts a concrete road up (two clean porta-potties there, only ones on the trail). You can walk up the concrete path, but there is a trail off to the side (would be much more challenging). There is a great deal of wildlife and if your quiet and pay attention you may catch a hummingbird and maybe a nest! Steep at the top and there’s a book to sign.
