Food scene

There are a few ordinary Supermercados in town but the best (and organic shopping) is here in the Municiple Market. Just off the Plaza Alpujarra and downstairs from the Cafe Terrace. There's Carmen and Leo's for fruit, veggies and dairy, Mansur's for Olives, Coffee , nuts and dates; there are two fish shops, a bakery, a fresh pasta shop and a great little Mexican style cafe "Milpa."

If you only have one meal out in Órgiva, have it here! Why? Well this quirky (only in Órgiva) place was voted one of the top 10 best restaurants in rural Spain by Gaurdian Newspaper readers. My favourites from the menu? For a quick cheap meal any of the wraps, but the arugula salad blows my mind every time. Don't forget the limonada baraka (lemonade with yogurt.) N.B. no alcohol served here as it is a Sufi establishment.

Although this is called a Pizzería don't be fooled, it has much more on the menu. It is a cosy place in winter, but in Summer the outside orange tree courtyard is great. My favourite on the menu, duck patté with fruit sauce, also they serve to die for chocolate cake and ice cream to finish.

Three things about this place. (1) the Italian coffee and in house croissants . (2) the high quality creative cooking in the evenings. (3) Great value and tasty lunchtime menu al día.

For the evening this is a great and atmospheric, if small with uncomfortable seats, place to chill and eat great wood fired pizza or Argentina steak.

I can no longer eat pasta anywhere else in town (actually Venta Maria is just outside of town.) Italian chef makes his own fresh pasta (there is always a non pasta dish on the menu which is change every day and OMG the tiramisu! N.B. Only Italian wine and bear served.

There are many reasons to visit Capileira but you could and we do go just for this restaurant. Traditional Alpujarra and Mediterranean dishes with large portions. Good atmosphere inside and out (in a little square near to the church.)
