Sightseeing

This is a really impressive site. The trestle was built around 1920 and at the time was the largest in the Commonwealth. It was rebuild and refurbished as a pedestrian/cycle route and a link in the Trans-Canada Trail about 10 years ago. Great spot for a picnic and a selfie!

The Koksilah is a beautiful wild river that runs through our valley and meets up with the Cowichan River before emptying into Cowichan Bay. Great hiking trails along the river and lost of spots to have a dip on a hot day.

A great little park, close by, for a walk, a visit to the river, or playing with the kids.

Food scene

Cowichan Bay is a great little scenic town. An old fishing village there is now a thriving local food scene. It is about a 20 minute drive from the Glade and a great place to go for a day trip and to visit the excellent bakery, True Grain, or take in a delicious lunch.

This is our closest winery, and a good one, but there are many I would recommend in the Valley, also including Zanatta, and Cherry Point. Good food is available at all of these...

Recreation

There is a disc golf course at the Hub and, on occasion, other musical or cultural events. It is a fifteen minute drive from The Glade.

The Trans Canada Trail is a one minute walk from the cabin. The trail is perfect for a short walk to the trestle (15 minutes) or for a swim. If you are feeling more ambitious, you can cycle to Shawnigan Lake (30 Minutes) or to Lake Cowichan (half a day?).

City advice

Don't miss

The Saturday Farmer’s market is not to miss...

Check out the local scene for organic food and crafts at the large and bustling Farmer’s Market every Saturday.
What to pack

Please bring practical footwear...

There is a short trail through the woods to get from parking to the cabin...the trail only takes a minute and is not too difficult, but requires decent shoes or boots.
What to pack

Seeing at night.

There are some solar lights around and I will provide one flashlight, but helpful if you have a headlamp for navigating at night.

Valleyview

Valleyview is the closest shopping spot...about a 20 minute drive. It has a good grocer (Country Grocer), the best coffee around (Drumroaster), a good wood-fired pizza joint (Primastrada), and a really good second hand bookstore (Bucknuck’s) as well as pharmacy, doctors’ clinic, and other shops.
