This is perfect on a warm summer day! Only 5 minutes by bike you find a swimming lake with lots of play facilities. Also a beach bar where you can have breakfast, lunch or a cocktail with your feet in the sand.

On the other side of the river you find the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. A ridge of hills formed in the ice age. In the forest of Amerongen are nice walking trails and a great playground for the kids. Best to take the ferry of ‘Eck en Wiel’.

You can cycle in about 30 minutes to the lovely terrace and restaurant on top of an old fortress on the dike. Perfect stopover to go cycling (their is a small ferry!). If you have energy left, 10 minutes further along you find the Fortress of Everdingen where you can drink a locally brewed beer.
