Harmony of the Adelaide Hills. On an 84 hectare property nestled just north of Nairne, in the Adelaide Hills, together they have slowly and thoughtfully transformed this former cattle pasture into a home for a collective that celebrates craft, sustainability and local produce. What is Lot 100? It’s a working craft brewery and small batch distillery. It’s a food and beverage destination, featuring the juxtaposition of industrial vs agricultural. It’s a benchmark project for sustainability and renewable energy. Lot 100 is the ‘in place’ at the moment as they are not only the ‘new kids on the block’ but also offer something very unique to the Adelaide Hills.Harmony

Pike & Joyce: two families, two stories, one dream! Pike & Joyce is a proud partnership between two families who share a history, a love of the Adelaide Hills, a passion for great food and wine, and a determination to produce the finest wine possible from any given year. In 1998 the Joyce family, which has owned and managed Adelaide Hills orchards for five generations, teamed up with Clare Valley wine legends, the Pikes, to develop 25 hectares of prime grape growing land. The vineyards are some of the highest in the Adelaide Hills and that elevation, combined with gravelly loam soils and sloping aspects, provides the perfect terroir for the production of the highest quality cool climate wines. The Joyce’s long horticultural history, combined with the Pike’s vast viticultural experience, ensures the vines are managed meticulously. The vineyard is hand-pruned and the fruit hand-picked, before being cold stored to ensure maximum quality. It is then transported for vinification to Pikes’ award-winning Polish Hill River winery. The Pike’s winemaking style aims to strike the perfect balance of winemaking philosophy, combining traditional old-world techniques with a modern Australian approach to produce wines that reflect the variety, region and vintage, as well as our own interpretation on some classic European styles. Perhaps it is no surprise that Pike & Joyce wines have earned an enviable reputation as some of the Adelaide Hills’ finest wines. Stunning food in a fabulous setting.

The Adelaide Hills Garden spans 97 hectares and is famous for its sprawling gullies, offering surprises during every season. Spring is popular when the Garden sees stunning mass displays of magnolias, rhododendrons and camellias, while autumn transforms the Garden's leaves into a panorama of scarlets, yellows and bronzes. Winter transports visitors to the Northern Hemisphere with the Garden often shrouded in mist and fog, while in summer the place to be is Fern Gully - one of the richest fern collections in Australia and the spot to find respite from the heat. The iconic Heysen Trail also passes through this section. The Lakeside Trail is a more tranquil affair, offering universal access and a range of exquisite sculptures featuring important environmental messages. A picnic lunch by the lake after an invigorating walk is just the thing for an enjoyable outing with family and friends.

People always ask “why is it that Beerenberg strawberries taste so good? They’re so sweet and juicy and full of flavour.” We tell them, that’s no accident. It’s a story of risk, hard work and a long term commitment. Almost 200 years ago, ancestors, George and Anna Paech and their young family embarked on a courageous journey from their home in German-speaking Prussia to South Australia, a land they knew little about, on the other side of the world. They were willing to take the risk because they dreamed of a happy life here, free to farm and build prosperous and healthy lives for themselves and for future generations. They were fortunate to settle on land in the Adelaide Hills, which offered nutrient rich soil with gentle north-facing slopes, perfect for growing fruit and vegetables. They worked hard over the years, seeing themselves as stewards of the land, whilst cultivating their craft of food production. Six generations later, we, the Paech family, still 100% own, farm and live on the property, which is now known as The Beerenberg Family Farm. The name Beerenberg means ‘Berry Hill’ in German, a nod to our heritage, our produce and our hillside location. In 1970, their parents, Grant and Carol, made the decision to concentrate on growing strawberries. Grant infused the traditional farming practices that had been handed down to him through the generations and his deep knowledge of the land with new technology and techniques to produce the most spectacular tasting berries. He had inherited a commitment to excellence and spent many decades perfecting the art of strawberry growing, which he then handed down to his son, Robert, who now grows all of our strawberries. The first batch of strawberry jam in 1971 was the start of Beerenberg as we know it today, a thriving family-owned farm, tourist destination and manufacturer of the best tasting jams, chutneys, sauces and dressings. They are here for the long term and stake their families’ reputation on every product made. They love sharing a taste of the country life with the thousands of people who visit the farm to pick their own strawberries and taste our products. Everything is made right on the farm. They are proud to continue their families’ tradition of farming, land stewardship and food craftmanship.

Prancing Pony Brewery love beer and proudly operate as an Independent Brewery in the Adelaide Hills. They believe in people making beer for people and building a community. The Pony journey goes back when their co-founder and head brewer Frank had his home brew boil over on the stove so badly that Corinna, his wife and now CEO of the Prancing Pony, banned him to the shed as a result. By then, Frank already had a fictitious brewery called ‘Prancing Pony Brewery’ in his head when gluing labels to each bottle he filled. He probably just tried to impress Corinna. Lots of Pony beer was shared with friends and one Sunday afternoon, after a long session, a couple of close friends said, ‘Let’s start a real brewery’. Together, they eventually formed a company with the purpose of bringing the beer we all love to life. On the 1st of December, 2012, Prancing Pony Brewery pulled up the roller door and in 2015, the brewery relocated to a much bigger site in Totness. The production brewery is located at a mere 4 minutes’ drive from iconic Hahndorf, a historic German settlement 30 minutes’ from Adelaide’s CBD. The brewery restaurant is part of the brewery and all brewing processes can be viewed while enjoying a beer and some delicious food. The venue seats 120 guests and there is a large beer garden adjacent to the brewery. The venues is fitted out with rustic furniture, has an eclectic and inviting feel and is family friendly. Well behaved dogs are welcome in the beer garden and they welcome people from all walks of life. They support emerging performing and visual artists and have live music performances and brewery events throughout the year. They are an ‘all grain and all hop’ brewery, which means they brew their beers using malt, hops, yeast and water, only. They draw inspiration from traditional recipes for many of their beers and for others, they incorporate their own interpretation of a beer style and may add non-traditional hops, unusual malts or simply experiment with brewing and fermenting technologies. Common to all our beers is their intention to create long and lingering flavours, beers of high standard and quality and beers that will be remembered. From their session Pilsener to full expedition strength Stout, there is a beer for almost everybody and once you have found a favorite, it is quite possible that it will be replaced by your next favorite Pony. All of their beers have won medals and trophies however, the pinnacle for them was winning ‘Supreme Champion Trophy’ at the International Beer Challenge in London in 2016 for their India Red Ale and best small Australian Brewery in 2015.

Located in Cleland Conservation Park, Waterfall Gully is home to the largest of seven waterfalls that exist in the park. The popular and strenuous walking trail to Mt Lofty Summit starts at the Waterfall Gully car park and climbs through the park's steep hills, native vegetation and stringybark forest, providing spectacular views over Adelaide. This popular walk is short and sweet. With a cafe at each end, a well made path and regular seating, this walk is popular for a reason. On almost any morning of the year the trail attracts a range of people: some casually walking, others using it as a training walk, some runners, and others with heavy-simulated packs training for distant hiking locations like Nepal. As the walk involves some steep sections, the time taken to walk the trail can vary significantly. On a busy weekend, car parking at Waterfall Gully can be limited. Starting hiking from Mt Lofty instead of Waterfall Gully can be a good way to use the downhill as a warm up, to super charge your up-hill efforts.

Warrawong Wildlife Sanctuary is a national treasure. It’s the way Australia ought to be.Founded in 1969, by Dr John Wamsley, the Sanctuary is secured by what is widely regarded as the world’s first feral proof fence. That means all the Australian native animals living at the Sanctuary are safe from cats and foxes. The Sanctuary provides visitors with a glimpse of what the rest of Australia would look like if we eradicated introduced species. In this way, it stands as a beacon of hope for the future. The history of Warrawong is as colourful as it is controversial. To bring attention to the havoc wreaked by feral predators, Dr Wamsley proudly crafted and wore a dead-cat hat. Not everyone was happy. After a change of ownership, the Sanctuary fell into disrepair and was eventually abandoned in 2013. However, a West Australian couple, Narelle MacPherson and David Cobbold, purchased the property in 2017. Warrawong is now home to a range of rare and endangered species, as well as a host of rescued animals that, without finding refuge at the Sanctuary, would have been euthanized. The 28 acres of Warrawong Wildlife Sanctuary provide a safe haven for animals and people alike. Behind the feral proof fence, all creatures great and small are nurtured and protected, whether it be from predatory carnivores, or, in the case of humans, the stresses of modern life.Conveniently located in the Adelaide Hills, Warrawong is thought to be the home of the only remaining platypus on mainland South Australia. The last confirmed sighting on the mainland was in 1975. The Sanctuary is also home to an abundance of other wildlife, including koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, bandicoots… In addition, over 100 species of birds have been sighted at Warrawong. The Sanctuary is the perfect destination for those who wish to see Australian animals in their natural environments.Guided tours, behind the scenes encounters, and other amazing experiences are all available, when booked in advance.
