Sightseeing

Meyer May was married to David and Hattie Amberg's daughter Sophie. The Meyer May House was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and his studio and was completed in 1908, shortly before construction of the Amberg House began. Steelcase purchased the home in 1986 and completed extensive restoration work a few years later. Today the house serves as a hospitality center for Steelcase associates and is open for very informative (free) tours on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Food scene

Great, great food. Outstanding bartenders. It's one of our favorite dinner restaurants in town. There's usually a wait for a table, but it's worth it. Butcher's Union is one of several great restaurants on Bridge Street just west of the Grand River. If the wait at Butcher's is too long, Sovengard (just across the street) is wonderful. Other great options in the same area include One Bourbon, Knickerbocker, and Jolly Pumpkin. A short drive away consider Grayline, Atwater, and Mitten Brewing.

Wealthy Street is a short walk from the Amberg House and it features numerous restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries, and unique shops. Our favorite dinner spots are Donkey Taqueria (have a margarita), Zivio (Mediterranean cuisine), and Winchester. Try Good Trucking' Diner for breakfast. Have a cocktail at Mammoth Distilling. A few blocks east on Wealthy you'll see Electric Cheetah (great for soup), Brick Road Pizza, and Forty Acres (food with soul).

Green Well is one of several fun restaurants and bars clustered along Cherry St. between Eastern Ave. and Diamond Ave. If sushi is your thing, try Maru. For Belgian-style beer in a unique setting, Brewery Vivant is well worth a visit. For fine, really fine dining, you can't beat Grove. And if chicken is your thing go to Hancock's (corner of Wealthy and Fuller).
