Food scene

I would only recommend this place to people who are curious about how far you can take the cafe experience or to people who are seeking the absolute best espresso or cup of coffee (crafted in an array of styles). Additionally their menu is small, dialed in, exquisitely executed but highly priced. Yes, you will pay $7 for their most coveted espresso and $13 for a small breakfast plate with bacon that's heavier than your middle finger. The line becomes long on the weekends but they are well organized and have a large amount of seating. So don't let a line push you away from this expensive gem.

Wonderful locally owned coffee shop dedicated to the concept of reciprocity, the practice of exchanging things with others for mutual benefit. They ensure their coffee producers are paid specialty coffee rates and participate in the Tip the Farmer program. Their delicious coffee is roasted with zero emissions in order to be as sustainable as possible.

I've tried a lot of ramen places in town and Boxer hands down has the best broth, noodle texture, pork belly that melts in your mouth and my favorite, the Spicy red miso ramen (and add mushrooms). Skip the appetizers as the bowls are large and might be hard to finish.

Delicious cocktails and one of the best burgers in town, though make sure to add the Tillamook sharp cheddar.

Parks & Nature

Forest park offers a plethora of hiking trails, biking paths, mountain biking trails, unique vistas of the city and Cascade Mountain range. I enjoy the longer hikes that end up at Skyway Tavern for horseshoes and ping pong. The Southeastern part of the park is close to fun shops and a variety of food and drink options around NW 23rd and Thurman Ave.

One of the bigger Portland parks with plenty of paved and dirt trails to walk, bike, skate or scoot around on. The scenery is densely landscaped to block out the nearby roads and traffic. The lake in the middle is a popular spot to read and sunbathe during the summer
