Ancient /Quarry and Nature Preserve. Walking along the nature trails, you will see the remains of ancient quarry pits. The flint mined here by Native Americans is considered jewelry grade. Whatever you call it, Flint Ridge is an amazing and beautiful place. Over 2000 years ago, people from the Hopewell Culture discovered Flint Ridge flint just beneath the ground. This flint revolutionized the way they Hopewell people lived. They learned to quarry it, shape it, and trade it. If they had spear points and arrowheads, they could hunt the plentiful game and had food, shelter, clothes, and weapons. Flint Ridge was a busy place for thousands of years and played an important role in the lives of the Mound Builders.The onsite museum offers education, history and souvenirs.

Safari in central Ohio. Advance reservations are required via their website. I cannot say enough about this conservancy. It is about an hour drive from the cottage and truly like driving to another continent. You will not be disappointed!

Rated the number one zoo in America- need I say more?
Oh and the new baby giraffe has arrived. About a 45 minute drive from the cottage, definitely worth the drive.

Quiet, open park with a very interesting history. The Newark Earthworks in Newark and Heath, Ohio, consist of three sections of preserved earthworks: the Great Circle Earthworks, the Octagon Earthworks, and the Wright Earthworks. The Newark Earthworks are the largest set of geometric earthen enclosures in the world. Already a National Historic Landmark, in 2006, the State of Ohio designated the Newark Earthworks as "the official prehistoric monument of the state." Interpretive signage around the park will help to explain the significance of the site and why American Indians regard the Newark Earthworks as a sacred site. Average visit time: Allow 1+ hours. Guided tours are available July - October:

The restored 1830s port town is a stage for costumed interpreters and crafters portraying the life of those who lived and worked here.
Group and casual dining can be found at our village restaurants and pubs.
The shops of Roscoe Village offer a variety of unique gifts and several Ohio handcrafted items. The leather shop is my personal favorite. Beautiful gardens and restored Greek revival architecture attract visitors from all over Ohio.
Guests boarding the Monticello III can relax on the horse-drawn canal boat, while listening to stories of life on the Ohio Erie canal as relayed by the Captain. Whatever path may be taken at Roscoe Village leads visitors to a day to remember.
