Belvedere Palace is divided into two building units. The Upper and Lower Belvedere, both built in the 18th century by order of Prince Eugene of Savoy. In between there is a huge garden area. The castle served as the Viennese summer residence for the successful general Prince Eugene of Savoy. The castle, which is well worth seeing, and the beautifully designed gardens were built in the baroque style. Today, large areas of the two parts of the building and the park are open to visitors. In the Upper Belvedere there is a permanent exhibition with mostly Austrian works of art. In the Lower Belvedere, changing exhibitions are shown by various artists from different art epochs.
