Stunning hike with a few different trails and great water holes for swimming in summer, it takes about 30 mins to drive there but well worth packing a picnic and going with the family for the day, dogs are allowed.

There is a beautiful walking or biking track along the edge of the river bed all the way up in to waikanae town or down to the estuary and beach , pass grazing horses, pick wild blackberries , see local whitebaiters and protected native birds. Sunsets down at the beach looking out on to Kapiti island are unbeatable.

Quite easily the best bakery in NZ, the cheese or date scones, pies and pastry's are well worth indulging in.
