Cheltenham is a fantastic town for shopping, eating out, visiting one of the festivals ( literature, jazz science, food) an evening out at the Everyman theatre or a day out at the races.
The arty market town of Stroud has an abundance of independent shops and eateries. The Saturday Farmers is a must(find the salt house bakery stand for amazing bread) and the newly renovated five valley shopping centre is worth a visit for great fresh produce and street food. About 5 mins by car. There is also a bus service.
