The next beach along from Sandown and probably the nearest beach to here. It is a sandy beach with a promenade and car park located on the seafront for easy access. There are steps all the way along, otherwise there is a ramp right at the end of the beach that leads down to the sand. Great for children as it has a gentle entry into the sea with pools that appear at low tide. There are deck chairs and kayaks for hire. There is entertainment, restaurants and cafes along the seafront. Go to the far end of the beach if you prefer a quieter experience.

City advice

Don't miss

Walking

There are wonderful walks all over the Island and some great walks right here on Moor Farm’s doorstep. You can continue up the lane and join onto the cycle path or go back out towards the road and cross over to the lane opposite and walk up to Freemantle gate, with beautiful views of the downs and rolling hills, great for a picnic! There is a coastal path around the whole of the Island. Look up www.visitisleofwight.co.uk/things-to-do/walking for some inspiration. We provide a OS map in each of the cottages to help you plan your adventures!
Don't miss

Kayaking and stand up paddle boarding

A great way to explore some of the more difficult yo access coves and hidden caves, on a calm day you can even paddle your way around the ‘Needles’ rocks and lighthouse. The North East coast is normally more sheltered, so better for sea paddle boarding or kayaking. If you prefer inland paddling then Newtown Creek is a beautiful place to explore - go at high tide and take a picnic- you can launch from the bridge just before Newtown Old Town Hall.
Don't miss

Surfing and body boarding

The best surf is normally along the south west coast - Compton or Compton Fields are popular beaches for this. In the right conditions Shanklin and Sandown can also have good waves. If you would like lessons then check out www.iowsurf.com, they also hire equipment.
Don't miss

Sailing

The worlds largest sailing regatta takes place in Cowes each August, so there are lots of opportunities to learn to sail and navigate various watercraft. Look up www.uksa.org who offer courses for all ages and abilities. www.saltysailing.co.uk offer a complete range of courses from beginner through to Yachtmaster. They also offer skippered charters if you fancy taking the boat out but leaving all the work for someone else. You can hire a fully skippered boat for the day, weekend or longer - contact them to discuss a tailor made package for you and up to 7 friends.
Book before you go

Foraging with Island wildfood

If you would like to learn more about edible wild foods, how to cook them all whilst enjoying the beautiful scenery of the Isle of Wight, then book on a foraging course with Alex at www.islandwildfood.co.uk. Book early though, the places go fast.
