Feels fancy but it’s not, feel free to come as you are. The servers are friendly and we are a huge fan of the diverse menu. From burgers to sushi, fresh salads and our personal favorite the “Social Soda” there is something for everyone.

A hometown favorite! Kulshan Brewing Company offers a wide variety of tasty craft beers. The staff are friendly and the brewery gives back to our community by supporting non- profits and contributing to fund raising efforts. I am biased of course, as they even sponsor my mountain biking team, the Queens of Dirt!

The best tacos in town! Meat and tasty vegetarian options too. Pairs nicely with their Margavesa (margarita with a beer splash for extra bubbles)!

We love it for brunch with friends or dinner out with our parents. Lovely fresh food offerings, and a great bar for specialty cocktails. Small, cozy scene. The owner is often the one seating you too. It is located near Lake Whatcom and can be a great place to stop on your way to or from the North Shore or Chanterelle trails.

Nothing fancy but that’s why we LOVE this place. Great beer and pizza. Don’t be daunted if there is a line, just put your name on the list, it won’t take long before they can seat you. We recommend any pizza paired with the anti pasta salad (it’s big enough to share with the table) and a slice of peanut butter pie!

Great service, and they even have a few vegan options. I love the Sangria and their posole.

Swanky coffee in a nice light, open atmosphere. Yummy sit down breakfast too! They focus on quality, so it takes a few minutes for your coffee but it’s worth the wait.

A new favorite! They go the extra mile to make you feel welcome. Great pasta and salads and cocktails too. There may have been a week we ate there 3 times! Crazy - but no regrets. ;)

Sightseeing

This is a fave for sight seeing and delicious food! We LOVE this place and take our friends and family to Taylor Shellfish whenever they are in town. Located at the working shellfish farm you can enjoy food on site or take home fresh offerings to go. They serve beer and wine too. Very casual as you are dining at a picnic table on the beach or under an open patio. Beautiful year round, but be sure to bring a jacket for the cooler months as you are right on the water.

A favorite hike! The trail is fairly short (less than 2 miles round trip) but it is very pretty. Walk between big mossy trees, along the Nooksack River. Keep your eyes peeled for kayakers picking their way through the boulders and rapids. There are stairs, but overall it’s an easy trail for families. Be sure to hit Chair 9 or the Northfork Pizza and Brewery on your way home.

The trail is an old railroad grade, so it is flat and very easy to walk, run or ride a bike on. Out and back is 6 miles. There is even a waterfall and two bridged creek crossings. This is a hugely popular spot for family walks and summer Lake dips. If you have a floaty or a SUP this is a great spot to cool off. We have seen baby otters here on two different occasions. The cutest little critters ever.

Bike Shop and Service

Jacks is family owned and operated since...forever. They are nearby and offer rentals, repair service and goods to get you where you need to go. They also support my women and junior girls cycling team, so I of course am biased!

The staff are super helpful and positive. Their stoke level is usually pretty high and contagious! They offer Kona bike sales, service and goods to get you on the trails. They also support our local cyclecross and gravel rides and are big supporters of building inclusivity in the sport.

City advice

What to pack

Lock your bike!

Please be sure to lock your bike if you parking it in town or if it will be unattended on your bike rack. Bike theft hasn’t happened to me (knock on wood) but it does happen quite a bit.
