Cafes, Restaurants, Bars, Coffee & Tea, and Specialty Shoppes

This section is a constant evolution as we have become a destination for our outstanding dining and entertainment options. I will continue to add to it, and please let me know what should be included. For local places, I am happy to add them to the list once I have tried your establishment. No jonesing for a free meal, just a requirement that I can speak from experience and reference highlights.
It's just across the street, they are open all day, the food is delicious, small plates or pizza cooked in the wood fired oven. Run by husband/chef Tony and Juliana/wife/front of house.

Its my favorite for breakfast or lunch. A Francophile no doubt, I enjoy the authenticity of what owner Astrid has created. One is immediately transported to France. Open for breakfast and lunch and operated by owner/Astrid and her son. Crepes, salade nicoise, French onion soup, quiches, croques monsieur/madame, creme brulee, Mexican Coca Cola and many other specialties await you.

The Garrett Studio

Many of the items you see and enjoy can be purchased from us. There will be a studio on the 3rd floor where you can buy some of the extra treasures I have collected, or items you see or use. For example, the Melita pour over coffee filters can be purchased for $$15.00 I have amassed a large collection of vintage fruit crate labels, some framed and hanging on the wall. Other original historic prints, posters, maps, and post cards are available. Or, buy a set of cards created by local artists.

Sightseeing

A favorite place on this side of the river. I recommend a hike, a stop at the Hudson Chatham Winery, then on to the Bartlett House in Ghent for lunch, and further to Chatham, a beautifully restored historic small town before returning to Hudson. This is for drivers, but Uber is also available in addition to the Pronto Taxi service. A car can be rented through Enterprise, for pick up on Saturday morning and then leave it and the keys Sunday, as they are closed.

Frederick Churches castle on the hill provides an incomparable view of the upper and lower Hudson Valley. Originally a working estate, it was operated during the 19th century as a Utopian escape from the sudden explosion of industrial life in the city and a place for painter's to express their artistry during the Hudson River School of Painter's period which ended as the Impressionism period began. Reservations are required for tours of this "Oriental Victorian" architectural creation, influenced by the artist's travel to the Middle East.

This western bookend to the headwaters of the Hudson River School of Painters. Teacher and student dominated much of the 19th century in American painting and is now connected by special paths and an expansion to the Rip Van Winkle Bridge walkway. This collaboration was a masterful example of NYS government accomplishing great works in record time when the stars align. Pack a picnic, schedule tours, lunch with unparalleled views of the lower and upper Hudson River Valley and enjoy a slice of another American treasure, preserved for generations to come.

The owner also raises all the animals for a true farm to table experience. The authentic interior of this vintage stainless steel diner includes a juke box, counter with stools, and is very family friendly. Just off City Square park, Grazin' is on Warren Street and provides for a memorable meal.
