Food scene
This is the best restaurant and bar in the area.
Owned by the same family for five generations, the 29 Palms Inn sits on a 70-acre property. It is situated on the 9.000-year-old Oasis of Mara. The relaxed grounds include a two-acre organic farm, an enclosed gazebo sheltering a hot tub, and a sprinkling of hammocks. A houseboat floats on the palm-shaded pond, which attracts many bird species. The Inn’s boho restaurant, right next to the pool, serves artisanal cocktails and really good food.
Be aware that the restaurant doesn’t take reservations. On Sunday evenings, both the restaurant and the bar are packed. We recommend to go there no later than 6PM.
It’s a 10 min drive from the house.

The old Saloon/Restaurant has been around since the early fifties. This is a dusty little desert spot in the middle of nowhere, with a Bagdad-Cafe vibe. The space is incredibly eclectic with absolutely rad staff that love to be there. The front section is the bar area where you can order an affordable cheeseburger and Bloody Mary, and maybe catch a game of pool. The mid area is set up as a more sit-down eating spot that has a set up for live music. Out back there are lots of vintage seating and a larger stage for live music events. Check the website for their music programming.
