The most prominent geological feature of Bodega Bay is Bodega Head, a peninsula that forms the the protective arm between the ocean and the bay. The San Andreas fault runs right through it, separating steep rocky bluffs from sandy dunes. Atop the bluffs, grasslands rise more gently to the coastal ridges. The Head provides a dramatic vista and the ideal place to watch whales migrate south twice yearly in January/February and April/May. Restaurants, Oysters, Art Galleries, Fishing Boat Tours and Guides, Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" was filmed here!

Overlooking the heart of the beautiful San Geronimo Valley, Roy’s Redwoods Preserve is a perfect place for a quick escape. From the main entrance along Nicasio Valley Road, you enter a picturesque meadow surrounded by sheltering bay trees interspersed with clusters of towering redwoods. These redwoods are among the largest in the county. Remember that these specimens are just the offspring of even more massive “mother trees” that once stood in the center of these rings of 200 foot tall sprouts. From the meadow you can choose from a few shaded trails that loop through this 293 acre preserve. You may also choose to climb the Dickson Ridge Fire Road to enjoy sweeping views that stretch from Mt.
