Just up the road towards Foolow (about 1 mile) Stella's is a unique experience. Authentic Afro-Caribbean food, or pancakes, served in the farmhouse conservatory or you can order to take away.

Great pubs to walk to (or you could drive!).

Situated at BRETTON high above the village this is a very popular pub with visitors as the views are spectacular. They have an extensive food menu. About 40 mins walk up to the top of Eyam Edge, and along the ridge. They are nopt dog friendly though.

Great old fashioned pub on the village green in the picturesque village of LITTON. Open fires and proper food. The walk is spectacular in parts but does involve steep hills. It'll take about 1 and 1/2 hours.

located in LITTLE LONGSTONE this is an absolute local favourite. Fantastic beer and really special food featuring fresh local produce imaginatively cooked. Very cosy, always busy, always welcoming. Just how a pub should be. It's about a 2hr hike and you need good map reading skills if you go over the moors onto Longstone edge but you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views from the top.

At the head of MONSAL Dale this is great for a summer meal. The food is nice and the garden has wonderful views down the dale. Probably a couple of hours to walk but mostly on small roads. Probably better as a bike ride.

Sightseeing

No visit would be complete without a trip to Chatsworth house, gardens and park. The house is open to visitors and they do special events throughout the year. The gardens are wonderful and can entertain you for most of the day. There is a restaurant and cafes; a farm park with a great children's play area; a garden centre, and miles of beautiful parkland with the river Derwent flowing through, and deer wandering about

The most beautiful and romantic stately home which is truly evocative of historic England. Just outside Bakewell, Haddon is a favourite of mine.

Take the train from Grindleford to Edale (or drive but not such fun and parking can be tricky). There are 2 nice pubs and a couple of cafes too. From there you can follow well trodden paths up Kinder scout to the highest point in the Peak District. The paths are steep, and very busy during holiday times.

City/town information

Bakewell is a pretty market town with a busy market, and agricultural auctions on Mondays and a farmers market in the mornings on the last Saturday of the month. There's lots of shops; hundreds of cafes and a supermarket, as well as ducks and tame trout to feed in the river!
