Razgledavanje

Places you definitely have to visit to get to know Split. This list also includes places where locals hang out. We may even meet on some ;) Enjoy!
The palace is a gathering place and the center of the city of Split. Here you have restaurants, bars, shops,... The Palace itself is a place you have to explore. It was used by Roman Emperor Diocletian and is one of the best preserved monuments of Roman architecture in the world. In 1979, it was declared - with the historic city of Split - a UNESCO World Heritage site. The ruins of the Palace can also be found throughout the city.

Peristil is Split's main square, the former entry hall in Diocletian's Palace. There are six columns on both the east and west sides, and four more at the south end, which mark the monumental entrance to the Vestibul. The Vestibul is a cavernous open dome above the ground floor passageway; a foyer that leads you into the emperor's residential quarters. The Vestibul provides great acoustics allowing "klapa" bands to perform traditional a capella songs there in the mornings. St. Dominus Cathedral is on Peristil, and from Peristil you should take the stairs to Podrumi (The Diocletian Palace Substructures) - also Game of Thrones filming location.

Riva is one of the most famous places in Split, and you should definitely take a walk on Riva. Enjoy the sun and if you want to act like locals do - drink some coffee on the edge of Riva, on the small wall right next to the sea and enjoy the view ("kava na zidiću"). And... be sure to wear sunglasses - in Split everyone wears sunglasess :)

Cathedral of St. Dominus was the mausoleum dedicated to Diocletian. Today, the cathedral is a popular meeting place because of its proximity to the Silver Gate at Diocletian's Palace and Podrumi. The courtyard is the location for Split's Summer Festival in July and August. During the summer you can climb to the top and have a great view of Split. In the evening this is a place to chill and enjoy some live music.

Main park in the center of Split. Place to relax. During the summer many festivals (food, blues, local demo bands) are organized here. It's right near the Grgur Ninski statue, and here you can see a lot of people riding skateboards.

One of the most popular sand beach with lots of beach bars. Also visit Bačvice (right next to it). If you visit one of these you would see some people playing with a small ball at the beach. They are in the sea (at least their feet are) but they are in the shallow sand and they are playing PICIGIN - our famous "sport".
