Don’t let the strip mall location fool you. We lived in foodie Austin for years and totally think this Latin-inspired fusion restaurant would fit in perfectly there. The food is fantastic and it’s walkable from our house. According to the owner, the best time to go is 3pm when there is no wait, otherwise this tiny place gets packed!

There are few separate locations less than a 10 min drive from our house in opposite directions. Great daytime eatery (aka breakfast joint) but gets packed on weekends so get there early.

This was our favorite spot when we lived in Denver and we were so excited when they opened up one here in Colorado Springs. Hands down the best breakfast place we have ever been to! Personal favorites are their OMG French Toast and any of their Eggs Benedict plates. Or if you want to satisfy a sweet and savory tooth, get a half order of each...you won’t regret it!

Located downtown, you can find the most amazing biscuits, fried chicken biscuit sandwiches, and more that will really make the whole family happy! Only open for breakfast and lunch. At lunchtime and dinner it becomes a pizza place, Fat Sully’s, where you can get equally great pizza. (Dos Santos Tacos and Frozen Gold Ice Cream are also super yummy located right next door).

Skirted Heifer located less than a block away from Bingo gets a lot of hype, but we actually like Bingo better. Its located right downtown as well across from Acacia Park where they have a splash pad fountain in the summer and ice skating in the winter.

Connected to Pikes Peak Brewing Lager House downtown, the best way to describe this place is a “hipster food court.” With several food options, a bar and the brewery next door, it is a great place to try out several different bites to eat and sit on one of the many tables available. On weekends, you can usually find a live band playing as well.

It is a bit longer of a drive up to Green Mountain Falls, but worth it! Get out of the city, go for a spectacular hike amongst waterfalls and then sit down to enjoy some great eats at this place in town. Their cinnamon roll french toast and biscuits and gravy are pretty delicious!

A quick 3 min drive from our house. They serve coffee from local roasters and even have a closed off, back room with couches and toys for parents and kiddos. And if you love to dance and are in town the second and/or fourth Saturday of the month, check out their salsa night starting at 9pm.

Hiking

We pretty much hike most weekends when weather permits so happy to provide more recommendations for hikes outside or the city and/or that are suitable for any fitness levels!
This is our number one MUST SEE in Colorado Springs! We have traveled a lot and this is still one of our favorite places in the world! Go for a leisurely walk on the paved cement paths, or go off the beaten path and hike one of the many trails in the park. It’s free and great for kids! Fair warning though, parking can be hard to find on weekends and in the summertime, especially when the weather is nice.

If you are a fitness fanatic and want a challenge, this is a must-do! You go up 2,000ft (all steps) in less than a mile...enough said! You’ll feel truly awesome when you make it to the top. Then enjoy a nice 4ish mike hike down the Barr Trail (the trail that starts the ascent to Pikes Peak). Tip: park in Manitou Springs and take the shuttle up to the trailhead. The shuttle is free and you don’t have to fight for parking. (We don’t recommend this for young kids or doing it with your kids in backpacks or carriers.) UPDATE: With COVID, reservations are now required. (https://coloradosprings.gov/parks/page/manitou-incline)

Explore tons of trails in this area (we love the quick mile hike up Mt. Cutler or ⅓ mile hike up Helen Hunt Falls). Seven Bridges hike is also fun. Splash around and cool off in the creek that flows through the whole area. The Starsmore Visitor Center and the Lower Columbine Trail behind are great for kids or people who want an easy hike.
