City/town information

Empire is a lovely small town with an ice cream/coffee shop, an amazing chocolate shop, and some of the best darn beaches and hikes in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park. The Park HQ is located here, and you can find guides and information for exploring the park. The beach is wonderful for small kids, with a popular playground and access to both Lake Michigan and a smaller, warmer inland lake.

A friendly local tourist homebase, Glen Arbor has several classic eating options and ice cream shops, upscale boutqiues, the famous Cherry Republic, and bike and kayak rentals. We also highly recommend Anderson's, the local grocery store.

Sightseeing

One of our favorite hikes! An out-and-back with absolutely stunning views of the dunes. It is relatively flat and accessible compared to some of the steeper hikes up the dunes.

This is in your backyard! The dune climb is part of an extensive trail system through the woody dunes. Absolutely stunning views in every direction and badge of pride if you make it to the top.
