This a a great location to visit. There are 3 access points to the lake on the highway as you drive from Terrace. The first access is Grunchy's beach which is a great 1km easy trail to a beautiful sandy beach. The second access is the Picnic site which has fire pits, toilets, picnic tables and a small sandy beach with roped swimming area for kids to play. The third access is through the Furlong Bay campground. There is a sandy beach with roped swimming area as well toilets, hiking trails, camping and a playground.

This is such an incredible local waterfall! We took our 1 & 4 year old on a family hike here. The drive to get here also boasts some stunning views. Only accessible June through Sept. From Terrace drive west along Highway 16. Turnoff is to your right before the highway bridge over the Exstew River (if you cross over the bridge you've gone too far). It will just look like a small unmarked dirt road that crosses the railway tracks. Follow the main dirt road and turn right at the first fork (left will take you to a campground), right at the second fork(left will take you to the logging bridge), and at the final third fork turn left to the falls. The third fork is around 8km from the start of the forestry road. Unless you have a jeep or a truck that can drive the remaining 2km you will likely need to park at the third fork and hike the remaining 2km to the waterfall (about 25 minutes). Once you arrive at the memorial and parking area (you cant miss it) you will take the trail up to your right. The first turn off the path will take you to the bottom plunge pool. The second path (with falls sign) will take you to the upper plunge pool. You can make a loop of it and spend some time at the falls. Its about 15 minutes to do the loop with a bit of steeper hiking. Our 4 year old did really well on this part just holding our hand, while our 1 year old went into a backpack carrier. Prepare to get wet!

Sightseeing

This is a great stop for all travelers! Grab a hot coffee, cold drink, ice cream, sit and have lunch, picnic tables or rent a bicycle. They are full of knowledge of the local area, many guidebooks and maps available for free. Another highlight is that the center sells many goods made by local artists. There are t-shirts, knitting, woodwork, spa items, jewellery. So many ideas for gifts and souvenirs that are from local vendors.

Excellent take out for Indian food, large portions that gave us enough for leftovers which is rare. We tried this restaurant recently and will absolutely be back for more!
