Sightseeing

When you are out and about the local area, there are many places to go in all directions!
This is New Hampshire's oldest vacation village about 12 miles to the southwest. Although it has been a while since trains made the trip from Boston, you can still visit the old rail station and see a glimpse of the past history of how many came from far away to enjoy this town with it's quaint downtown which still has that feel of yesteryear. Stop in for an ice cream at the town docks while you watch the boats come and go both large and small. Walk the downtown and feel the charm that can be found in the shops there.

NH has the claim to the highest mountain in the northeast United States. The White Mountains named not for snow but the White Birch trees that make them white! Snow on Mount Washington is the first to arrive and the last to leave! Be careful on those sharp corners!

Dover, NH, just north of Portsmouth on the Cocheco River host the newly refurbished Children's Museum of NH. Previously in Portsmouth, its new location has space to grow! Additionally, it joins Dover's heritage by way of the Woodman Museum which hosts colonial NH roots. Dover's mill buildings across the street from the Children's Museum was instrumental in the grown economy of NH via the use of water power.

Neighborhoods

Ossipee is in my opinion the east side of NH's Gateway to the White Mountains. It has become a popular destination as it is close to the busy seacoast (1 hour) yet far enough away to leave home home! It is a long and narrow town with three distinct areas along busy Rt16. Ossipee Corner to the SOUTH Center Ossipee in the CENTER and West Ossipee to the NORTH! The intersection of Rt16 and Rt28 has become a popular shopping haven. Whites Pond is close but you would not notice as it is tucked way in a valley!

City advice

Don't miss

Time to immediately unwind!

With all the things that you will want to do, taking time to relax on your first day at 18 Cottage Road should be your first priority! Plenty of time for cooking family meals the remaining days of your stay so pickup a pizza just a couple minutes from your door at the Ossipee House of Pizza. Get your essentials the same time at the Hannaford's supermarket just another mile up Rt 16 which will have everything that will make your first night on the pond memorable!
Don't miss

Nature all around you.

Your stay at 18 Cottage Road will be private! Your waterfront is yours only to enjoy with family. Make you second day in harmony with all the nature around you. Use the boats and water accessories to explore the quietness of the crystal clear Whites Pond. Explore the undeveloped waters edge across the pond where you will see lots of living inhabitants not seen at the cottage side. A nature walk around the pond not far from waters edge will give you a feel of the wildness of White Mountains while feeling safe. Cottage Road and White Pond road join to make 40 minute adventure for all.
Don't miss

Make use of all the amenities on site.

If you love swimming, you have come to the right place. Whites Pond is noted for having some of the clearest clean water around! From you pondside doorstep, you will be less than 25' to waters edge. Two docks will provide some guidance to the little ones for their safety in water that slopes gently into the pond. No sharp drop offs here. If diving into the water is a must, venture out to the newly built 10x12 raft that is yours alone to use. Sunbathing is all day long there but remember to wear sunscreen.
Travelling with kids

Travel to sightseeing spots close at first.

As you can see by the guide, NH has tons of things to do off site. Although Center Ossipee is a small community with its town center tucked away some 15 minutes up the road off Rt16, there is a library and playground for the kids for a quick brake and lots of information about the area. From there, you will be able to get a lay of the land and which activities will yield you best use of time while in the area. Wolfeboro is a great first sightseeing location with boat and people watching with many food vendors near the waterfront. Ice cream is always a favorite while strolling lakeside.
Don't miss

Must visit while in NH is its unique things.

NH culture is what makes people come back year after year. From the ocean at Hampton or Rye beaches to the top of Mt Washington, NH has four distinct seasons. Spring brings life to leafless trees and summer brings warm to hot days to visit the lakes and beaches. Fall in NH is known for foliage season and country fairs. Winter, although cold at times, brings forth winter activities such as mountain sports, ice fishing and snowmobiling which makes for great visual beauty not found in the southern states. Make it a point to enjoy them all!
Don't miss

Decide on a big event to do as a family!

If possible, try a hike on one of NH's many varied trails. Some are very easy and short while others are world class. Choose according to your ability for all in your group. Just doing it as a group and taking as many pictures of two or more at a time will yield memories to last a lifetime. Yes, there is some much to record but make sure you keep people in them doing what they see as fun for them and include yourself too. Number one on my list would be the Kancamagus Highway. So scenic and so much to enjoy from adventure in the river, hiking and of course great food you bring!
