Delicious and different. Be prepared to wait in line, but worth it. My personal favorite are the hand pies.

Everything is a la carte - crazy sliders as well as the classics. Really fun place to eat. Usually busy though - I recommend going at an off time.

Delicious Japanese food and drinks. Great atmosphere. If you’re visiting on a Friday or Saturday make sure to call for a reservation or order your food to go. I love to order out. No take it next door to the Lexington.

Great experience even if you don't buy anything! Lots of local options from coffee and honey to veggies and baked goods. The best day to go is Saturday to experience the full market, but sometimes there is a Tuesday market. The surrounding stores are open regular hours.

Neighbourhoods

Roosevelt Park and the iconic train station, great food options along Michigan Ave, cobblestone streets. This is a nice place to visit if you've never been to Detroit. Spend a few hours walking around and grabbing a bite to eat. Two James Distillery is here, as well as Slows BBQ, and PJ's Lager House, and so much more. See the site of old Tiger Stadium that is now a youth ball diamond and retail space.

Do you like architecture? Then couple a visit to Sister Pie and Pewabic Pottery with a walk through Indian Village. The houses here are beautiful and large trees line the streets making for a great stroll.

Southwest Detroit has a large Hispanic population. If you are in the mood for Mexican food, make the trip to Mexicantown and choose from the many options. There are also some good live music venues like El Club. Honey Bee Market is a great place to grab some groceries or a breakfast burrito.

City advice

Getting around

Scooters are a fun way to see the area

Download the Spin or Lime app and you can find scooters to ride around the city. There aren't always a lot of scooters available in Woodbridge, but if you walk down Warren Ave towards WSU, there are always lots around campus.
Getting around

Mogo bikes

I have a few bikes at the house, but if they are in use then Mogo bikes are a good option. Biking is my personal preferred way to travel around Detroit. There is a Mogo "station" on Trumble Ave across from Woodbridge pub. They are also located all around the city for drop off/pick up.
Don't miss

Dog park options for your pup

There are 5 dog parks in the area, and 2 in walking distance - Rose dog park which is small but just a few blocks away, and Midtown dog park which is about a 15 minute walk and near some great shopping and food (Jolly Pumpkin, Third Man Records, Nest, Traffic Jam). Riverside is probably the biggest park, and Grand Circus is cool, but you will have to find parking downtown. Detroit dog park is the last one. It's not fancy, but a good size and has a view of the iconic train station.
