Trails

Easy/Intermediate. Great hike/bike/running trail for all types of people. Park in the dirt lot off Sourdough Rd, just past the turn to Triple Tree Rd on the left. The trail starts through a meadow with great views of the Bridgers and then winds through a thicket before opening up again and connecting to the upper section of the trail. There is an upper parking lot just before the trail dips back down momentarily, but they recommend you park at the bottom. If you do park at the top it turns it from a 6 mile hike into a bout a 3 miler. After the dip, keep right at the fork for a couple mile loop before returning back the way you came. Dog friendly, bear spray recommended in spring and fall.

Easy/Intermediate. Classic Bozeman hike. There are a few ways to the top with very clear directions from the bottom. Expect it to be fairly busy, especially on weekends. Great view of town with the occasional paragliders launching from above! If you take the steep trail (far right) expect it to be like climbing stairs, but steeper. There is a paved path all the way from town to this trailhead. Kid and dog friendly.

Easy/Intermediate. This trail is located right across the road from the M trail. This is quick loop (2ish miles) with nice views if you don't have all day. Kid and dog friendly.

Easy/Intermediate. One of my favorite places to bring the dogs. It follows a creek for the first mile or so, and then crosses a few more times depending how far you go. This is an out and back trail so you can turn around at anytime. At just past a mile there is a nice clearing with a beautiful view of the ridge, and if you continue another 4ish miles from there you will find yourself on Saddle Peak. It is fairly strenuous making it to the peak, but going any distance up this trail is worth it.

Intermediate. Another classic Bozeman hike. Drive out past Bridger Bowl and follow signs to Fairy Lake. It is a 7 mile dirt road up to the lake so sturdy a sturdy with some clearance is recommended. Make sure you check out Fairy Lake before or after your hike as well, it is small but beautiful. The hike up to Sac is short but moderately steep. Expect to feel exposed at times with switchbacks on some loose rocks but it is the best bang for your buck as far as views for the distance. It is the shortest hike in the entire mountain range to make it to the ridge. After the switchbacks up the bowl you will make it to the saddle, stay left to go to Sacajawea Peak and right to go to Hardscrabble Peak. You have a good chance of seeing mountain goats at the top so thats pretty cool too!

Intermediate. Located about half way to Big Sky from Bozeman, Lava Lake is an amazing mountain lake located only 3 miles up a not-so-strenuous trail! This lake stays chilly year round but is great for a dip in the mid to late summer! Bring your fishing pole if you like. Also don't forget bear spray on this one, there are grizzlies around these parts.

Museums

The Museum of the Rockies is SO COOL. Did you know that the most complete T-Rex skeleton ever found was found in eastern Montana?! Neither did I until I went to this museum. There are always rotating exhibits but the dino room is always a huge hit.

National Parks

Yellowstone National Park is about a 1.5 hour drive to either entrances (through Gardiner, or West Yellowstone). Both drives are gorgeous, it will just depend on where you want to go and what you want to see in the park. The possibilities are endless! Bring binoculars and a camera. Traffic can get EXTREMELY backed up in the summer to be sure to leave plenty of time.
