Malta's GO TO place for local pastizzi! One cannot visit Malta and not have a Pastizzi! Especially from our locally famous Serkin! If you want to have a complete local experience have a pastizzi accompanied with a cup of tea or coffee in a glass! Traditional pastizzi are cooked with cottage cheese ('rikotta' in Maltese) or peas ('pizelli' in Maltese). At serkin you will also find variations of pastizzi with chicken or tuna and anchovy. Also delicious! but make sure you are not counting your calories on a pastizzi day! This is definitely one good thing about your stay in the beautiful old town Rabat!

The Wignacourt Museum is a museum in Rabat. It has recently been refurbished. It is an 18th-century Baroque building which housed Knights and priests; the Chaplains of the Order of St.John, who took care of St.Paul's Grotto. It is named after Grand Master Alof de Wignacourt, who ruled over the Maltese Islands between 1601 and 1622.  Inside Wignacourt museum you will find St Paul's Grotto - Catacombs - World War II Shelters - Museum - Art Museum. Go down to St Paul's Grotto where the saint is believed to have stayed whilst shipwrecked in Malta in 60AD. Explore the labyrinth of Punic, Roman and Christian Hypogea and the complex of World War II Shelters. There is a collection of prominent works by Maltese and European artists, and artefacts from the church and Knights of St John. I love the fact that the Wignacourt museum has a beautifully set coffee place inside a courtyard which is also open for lunch and dinner. A very pretty place. My children love to visit Wignacourt museum time and time again they find the place very intriguing so that's a plus that note for families!

St.Agatha's Crypt, Catacombs and Museum. The Maltese Catacombs were never meant to be hiding places during persecutions or as living quarters. They were underground cemeteries dug in the globigerina limestone, consisting of long narrow corridors with tombs on each side and vaults. Some of the tombs are even decorated with reliefs and frescoes. In St Agatha's, there are over 500 graves of several types, the majority of children. There are sections for pagans and Jews, as well as for Christians. Most of the tombs were used for the internment of two people. Sometimes a double tomb has a thin wall separating one from the other. At times they are put side by side, and not only two, but even three, four or five persons were buried in the same grave. In almost all graves there is found the head rest, a sort of rock pillow. In each grave there is a semicircular cavity where the head of the deceased person is rested in its position. These cavities denote how many people were buried in each grave. Another interesting feature in the Maltese Catacombs is the Agape Table, probably used as a table for the final farewell repast. This is a round table hewn out of the live rock about 60cm or more above ground level.Generally these tables are about 75cm. The different types of tombs are another feature that distinguishes the Maltese Catacombs.Very frequently, one can notice many small niches cut in the side walls. These were used to hold an oil lamp to light the whereabouts. Many niches still bear soot marks. Two of the tombs at St. Agatha's Catacombs are decorated with mural paintings.

Venturing outside Rabat town but not too far off. Naxxar is my favoured village. Visit Palazzo Parisio for a fine dining lunch, afternoon tea or dinner. It is my favourite spot for afternoon tea! There are many other good restaurants, cafes, shops and beauty services around Palazzo Parisio. You will notice that the village church in Naxxar (just opposite Palazzo Parisio) is the size of a Cathedral! Naxxar has a picturesque avenue road as you enter the village centre. It has become a very popular village.
