This is a restaurant where you go and then you think about the meal you had for a long time. I mean a LONG time. I'm thinking about the cheesey grits from my last visit as I write this, and I think that says something about how good those grits are. Not only is their food outstanding, their contribution to the community is invaluable.

Sightseeing

You can spend hours wandering around the the different shops and food stands at the Midtown Global Market. There's often live music happening. This is on the other side of Minneapolis, and if you are looking for a really cool place to spend some time, check it out. It's not very touristy. It's this mix of food and crafts and cultures and I absolutely love it.

Get Outside

No matter the season, Minnesota parks always have something to offer. Whether it's ice skating at Sanborn park, snow tubing at Theodore Wirth Park, boating on one of the 10,000 lakes, or strolling around the Eloise Butler flower garden, there's something for everyone.
Ryan Lake is across the street. When we first moved to the area, this park wasn't a park and the dock was more of a dare. It took so much hard work, by so many dedicated people, to transform this park into what it is today. We went through a phase where we would bring our bird book, sit on the bench at sunset, and see what we could see. The birds are shockingly loud which never failed to amaze us.

The Science museum, which also happens to house the contents of The Museum Questionable Medical Devices, is multilevel with rotating touring exhibits. The questionable medical devices exhibit is a fun one. There are also exhibits with sound waves, lights waves, and electricity. They have live, interactive shows daily, and there's an IMAX theatre. There's an area for DNA labs and there's an entire exhibit with looming dinosaurs. It's a good way to spend a day.

Old school movies. This is a family run place. And this family, they are such dedicated members of the community. They have free family movies Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Not rent one get one. Just free. I cannot say enough good things about the lone little video store called Video Universe. It's like a trip through time. They still have VHS tapes! We love it.

European style grocery store. You can't beat the prices. Bring a quarter to use a cart. You use a quarter to unlock a cart, and then get your quarter back when you return the cart. They do not provide bags so we have left some for your use. The checkout person will be sitting and scanning and putting your items efficiently into a new cart. What will happen next is this, your groceries will fill the new cart. You will pay, take your new cart with your efficiently stacked groceries, leave your other, now empty, cart behind, and move on to the bagging area. This part is pretty self explanatory. It's the bagging area. When you return the cart and lock it, you get your quarter back. I love this grocery store so much. It hasn't always been in this country. There's a special place in my heart for the chocolate section.
