The BEST bagels anywhere! I'm German and picky about my bread. Their bagels are awesome and fresh (and I love their cannoli). There's also an Express location in Shallotte. Beware, both locations are closed on Mondays!

This awesome "dive" made several NC Top 10 lists. This is a great spot to buy fresh fish or sit and have lunch or dinner outside by the water. The staff could not be friendlier. There is no indoor seating but the outside tables with straw umbrellas and tiki torches make for a lovely atmosphere. It's BYOB.
Additionally, you can book a fishing trip for a very reasonable price.

This place is hugely popular and packed when it's open. It's walking distance, right up the street. I love the coconut shrimp. If you like wings and ribs, they fall off the bone. As the name implies they are a bit on the sweet side.

Parks & Nature
If you want to take your pups to a beautiful, wooded hiking trail, this is the best. Not very crowded, and people just let their dogs run. There are several trails all leading to the Intracoastal. You can also drive down and park before the gate closes. If you leave late, no worries, the gate will open to let you out.

Take a walk on Sunset's very nice, wide beach (although no shells) to the Spirit Mailbox. Sit on the bench, read some of the things people wrote into the notebooks before you, and add a little personal note or memory of your own.
