Food Scene

Our favourite restaurant in Cornwall. Fish tapas cooked and prepared superbly well. We actually like the raw stuff best - the cured brill and the cerviche in particular. I would also recommend the house white Pinot Gris to wash it down. Rather than have the set deal, we typically order one of everything and then another one of our 2 favourite plates - that’s enough for 2. You will think the plates are small but after you have had a few you will feel satisfied. Blues music played through speakers is good.

Rick Steins main restaurant. There may be other chefs with more awards but we love this flagship restaurant of Rick Stein. It has a cool vibrant decor - it’s great you can eat at the bar. The food is excellent - we like Rick’s Indiana style.

Simple food very simply cooked in a chic atmosphere. Fish curry is good and finish off with cheese and honey. They do three courses for a decent price.

Top restaurant in the UK for 2019 in the good food guide. From a fish perspective you won’t get any better than this. Expensive but deservedly so. Typically, Mr Outlaw will be cooking it himself - he has two Michelin stars the only fish chef in the world to have this. Ambience is a bit lacking but food is extra special.

Local coffee. Very nice coffee and light lunches. About 400 metres from the house. We like the fact they make their own cakes, pasties etc. The steak pasties are even made with meat from their own cows. Also good for salads.

Our local pub. The food has recently improved enormously. Try the fresh hake - also the posh fish and chips is good. Try to get a table in the bar overlooking the sea. Just 500 metres from the house.

Fine dining at its best. Pricey - but pretty cool. They do meat as well as the usual fish. Tom Kerridge recommends as his favourite restaurant in the UK

We like to park up in Daymer Bay and wander up the estuary to Rock for lunch. You can catch the passenger ferry over to Padstow from Rock if you like.

Essentials

Bude has a good selection of supermarkets. However, most on-line supermarkets deliver to Crackington Haven - Waitrose, Asda, Sainsbury’s, Tesco. There are a couple of local grocery stores at the petrol station in Wainhouse Corner that is about 3 miles away.

Activities

Loads of stuff to do in Cornwall.
National Trust protected area encompassing the Cornish coastal path. Stunning beauty. Great for walkers and families. Great surfing and body boarding - we have some boards in the house. Lifeguards during the summer. Good beach and Loads of rock pools. We like to walk to Boscastle to the South and Bude to the North - be warned, this is serious walking. You can, however, head of North or South and do lovelyround trip walks back to the house of between 3-5 miles.

One of the most popular cycle ways in the country. Good for families but also for more experienced bikers. Starts before Bodmin and goes all the way to Padstow. There and back about 35 miles. We like to rent from the Snails Pace cafe in Wenfordbridge. Most people with families rent from the places in Wadebridge.
