Food scene

A brewery in Bellefonte, PA that was formerly a matchbox factory. The venue is massive and there are no reservations needed! You just walk in and find a seat. The brewery and the bistron are separate, so you will order and pay for your drinks separate from your food. The food is amazing! If you like beer and authentic Pennsylvania breweries, this is a great place! Try the Mean Duck and Hazy Dazy brews – our favorite!

Off of Atherton Street, this is a well-known pizza and Italian restaurant. Their Margarita Pizza is amazing! It is a small restaurant with minimal parking, so take-out is good too!

This is a little further away, but definitely worth the extra 10 minute drive. Located off of I-99, in Toftrees. They are known for their gourmet milkshakes and their table fries (yes they’re literally laid out on the table). Highly recommend the crab fries and the salted pretzel milkshake. You can make your milkshake hard, but be careful – they are strong!

This is the closest restaurant to the house. It is in the Mountain View Country Club and Wydnham Hotel area. Food is great, staff is even better! There is outdoor and indoor seating, the restaurant has a gorgeous view of Mount Nittany. Definitely try to make it by sunset, it is breathtaking.

Cute breakfast spot and/or lunch spot. If you’re looking for quality breakfast sandwiches – try this spot! Add a homemade muffin or cookie and your mouth will thank you. It is a small place located next to the Military Museum, so enjoy a bite and a walk around the outdoor museum.

Restaurant in Boalsburg with a gorgeous outdoor seating area. Duffy’s is awesome for family-friendly atmosphere and if you need a bar (more adult friendly) setting. The serve fancier more chef’s-choice food. So, if you are looking for more mature cusine, this is an awesome place!

Known for it’s giant cow statue on top of the restaurant. Hard to miss when driving from Timberwood. Kelly’s is a nicer steakhouse with some amazing gourmet meals. Definitely recommend for a nicer dinner for graduation, etc. Reserve your table, this place gets crowded quickly!

A Downtown State College staple. The Tavern recently renovated in 2021 to provide some more seating and open space. Another great place for a nicer family dinner like graduation. Little fancier and it is downtown, so you would need to pay for parking.

A newer bar/restaurant in downtown State College. Located right in the heart of downtown, this restaurant is spacious and has the best burgers in town. Great place to watch games, enjoy time with friends and family, and grab a quick bite.

Winery off of 322 (headed East from Timberwood). This winery is tucked into the woods, so you may be driving on some back roads to get there, but trust us – it's worth it! They have outdoor and indoor seating and some of the best selections of wine! They have seasonal wines also, if you are looking to get festive.

Sightseeing

The town of Boalsburg is a quaint town. It is historically known as one of the birthplaces of Memorial Day. There is not much in the town, but walk down Main Street and you will see some gorgeous homes built in the early 1900's.

This is an outdoor museum for the most part. The walking trail is a great spot to walk around the 0.25 mile loop and see some pretty amazing memorials. There are memorials for fallen WWII soldiers and tanks used in the previous wars. Great place for kids to run around!

One of our favorite spots outside of State College and outside of chaos. It is a lake and also a walking trail. The trail is about 3.5 miles long in the woods of Bear Meadows around the gorgeous manmade lake. You can fish here! It is catch and release. This is a very calm place to go if you need some peace or something to do that is out of town.

Outside of State College and in-between Timberwood and Boalsburg. Tussey has a driving range, go-carts, and many other recreational facilities. If it’s winter time, this is the spot to go skiing, snowboarding, and tubing. In the spring, summer, and fall you can enjoy some long and short hikes with a great view of State College. The switch-back is great for beginner hikers, or people that don’t know the area. Or you can follow the trails up, down and around the mountain. Depending on the hike, it could be an easy or hard hike.

A well-known hike for locals. Mt. Nittany has a few different trails that take you to different look-out points to see the town. The most well-known look-out point overlooks Beaver Stadium and campus. The 30-minute hike is steep, but well worth the view – this is an easy hike. You can also go around the mountain and end up at the same look-out point, this would be more moderate.
