Emsworth, another favourite small town on the harbour, shops and beautiful walks with good restaurants. Emsworth was traditionally the centre of the oyster trade but sadly, the oysters are no longer around.

Selsey - walks along the sea wall, West past the fishing fleet, RNLI Lifeboat and RNLI shop and small crab and lobster shacks (Julie's/Potters) to the Bill and around to the West with views to the Isle of Wight and a sandy beach (across the shingle) at low tide. In the opposite direction (East) take Park Copse around the corner to see the converted train carriages and onto the Pagham Harbour bird sanctuary, a beautiful walk along the beach and around the corner to the historic Church Norton chapel. The High Street has some restaurants and pubs and a few local shops, including two Co-ops (North and South), two chemists, green grocer (extremely good). I have left a list of restaurants/cafés in the annexe.

The Trundle, above Goodwood racecourse is a favourite walk. Once up there you have a 360 degree view of the Sussex countryside down to the sea. On Fridays and at the weekend there is a coffee van selling the best coffee and cakes in the area. There are, of course, numberous walks up on the South Downs.

West Wittering Beach, miles of flat sand and sand dunes. One of our favourite walks is from West Wittering to East Wittering along the beach and back, as beautiful in the winter as it is in the summer. There is a café selling drinks in the carpark, or park in East Wittering (cafés, shops and restaurants, also a fish shack) and walk to the West and back.

Arundel, a little bit further afield but an absolute must for character, a castle on the river, beautiful shops, galleries and restaurants or just a walk along the Arun.

Food scene

The Crab & Lobster is well known for its fantastic, locally sourced food and wine. Well worth a visit, you need to book in advance. It sits on the Pagham Harbour Bird Sanctuary and is a tranquil spot

The Crown & Anchor is our favourite spot for lunch, you need to book. In the summer there is a wonderful outside space on the harbour and in winter log fires glow in the bustling pub restaurant. An outside fire is a great place to sit around whilst waiting for your table.
