Drinks & Nightlife

Great "local" hangout. It's a little hole in the wall place in downtown Beaufort. It might be small but it's really big on atmosphere. They also serve lunch most weekdays.

Arts & Culture

Don't miss out on visiting the historic Penn Center, the site of the first school for freed slaves established on St. Helena Island. In the 1960's the Center sponsored and hosted interracial conferences on Civil Rights and was a retreat site for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and human rights activists. Dr. King wrote much of his famous "I have a dream" speech in a still standing home right on this very property. There are events held throughout the year as well as private tours of the property.
