This is one of the jewels of Sydney's beach scene and you can easily see why. Balmoral Beach is as expansive as most of the city's ocean beaches, but its harbourside position means it's shielded from winds and big waves, so the calm waters provide a sheltered swimming enclosure and lovely picnic spots.
Maccallum Pool, on the western side of Cremorne Point, is a unique harbourside pool with heritage character and superb views. Its waterside timber deck is an unparalleled sun bathing spot - especially on winter afternoons.
It was originally just a rock pool created by local residents to form a safe harbour swimming hole. The architectural style of the current pool dates back to the 1920s and was restored in keeping with this heritage theme by the local council in 1985-86.

This 250 metre stretch of sand is at the northern perimeter of Mosman, one of Sydney’s most genteel residential enclaves. Chinaman’s Beach is well inside Middle Harbour so there’s nary a wave to be seen, making it a great place for a relaxed swim, picnic and a splash about for the kids.
