Sightseeing

An obvious one if you’ve never done it before! They redid the museum a few years ago and it’s a great place to visit if you enjoy history and it's family friendly learning. If it's warm enough, it's a beautiful place to get a picnic lunch and people watch. The museum is free, but you do need a ticket to go up top. It's good to schedule those ahead of time, especially if you're going on a weekend. If you want to grab a scooter and have a bit more time, you could drive along the river and view the Graffiti Wall, which is ever changing.

Not just for kids! A fun place to explore and see a unique perspective of the city. Be prepared for some exercise, though. You can easily spend half a day crawling and climbing! Pro Tip: You can park at the City Museum for a flat rate and then leave your vehicle there while you explore downtown using a scooter.

Forest park is probably the gem of STL. They have the Art Museum, History Museum, Zoo, Science Center (all free) plus some other beautiful buildings to explore. In the winter, the Zoo has special Christmas lights and in the summer, there is the Shakespeare Festival plus Broadway shows at the Muny. Pro Tip: The Muny always has free seats! Grab a pizza, some binoculars if you need them, arrive early, and enjoy a perfect STL evening.

Looking for a great photo op with the Arch? This park that's just across the river is for you! There's a fantastic view of the riverfront and the Arch. If you can plan for it, the Geyser erupts at noon everyday Memorial Day through Labor Day. This is another great place for a picnic with great views. FYI: The route to get there runs through an industrial area that may seem like you've gone off course. Continue following the directions from your GPS and you'll eventually get there!

This is a fun road to walk with a variety of food choices and random stores. Blueberry Hill is my personal fav (play some darts while you’re there!), but Fitz’s and Salt & Smoke are both favorites for local eats. Pro Tip: No need to search for street parking! It can be packed during popular hours. There's free parking in the lots behind Fitz's.

My favorite place to eat in STL, hands down. It's only open at lunch and the line is totally worth it. Do yourself a favor and make this place a part of your trip. Go ahead and grab a Dad's cookie while you're there. Pro Tip: Can't decide on a sandwich? You can ask for halves of two totally different sandwiches!

This is the first place I've ever eaten where when I got my food and took one bite, I started to call the waitress back to immediately order the entire meal again. Shrimp po-boy for the win! It's more than delicious. Weekends can serve up some live music and long wait times, so definitely call ahead if this is on your list. Just FYI: They have the smallest, least personal bathrooms that I've ever seen in a restaurant/bar. If you think you might be uncomfortable with that or you're a bigger person, you might want to plan ahead.
