Food Scene

We like Fresh Fire Grill since it is one of the few local Palo Cedro places to eat and is only about a 6 minute drive from us. They have a great chicken teriyaki bowl as well as excellent ribs. It's small but clean and healthy and fresh. They have weird hours so call first.

Anselmo Vineyards has a really stunning setting and is a great local winery. It is east of us towards Lassen and only about a 20 minute drive away. They had an ownership change and we haven't been there as much the last year since that happened, but I think they got a new chef and I hear the food is back to being pretty good. But the setting and wine alone would be worth the trip.

This is one of our long-standing favorite restaurants in Redding. It's a little like something out of Godfather- quaint, charming, dark, and very Italian (for Redding anyway). I love the Chicken Marsala, and the Filet Mignon is amazing as well. This is best for romantic dates and we don't like to take our kids there as much, although you could.

The views of the Sacramento River from the patio are stunning. Whenever we go here we always opt for the patio since they usually have the misters going and it isn't too hot. My wife likes their lemon drop martini or Moscow Mule. The short rib tacos are good appetizers, and they have a decent menu selection. But the views and the ambiance are the highlights of this place for us.

I get the chicken Buddha Bowl every time. This place is affordable, simple menu, lots of seating options, central location, and great for families. Good, clean food and some interesting menu choices like gourmet hot dogs and pastrami sandwiches if you want to veer away from their signature Buddha Bowl.

Drinks & Nightlife

We are not much for late nights or bars, but if you want to experience the country, go to Red Rock Bar in Palo Cedro. It's just a 5 minute drive away and you probably won't see a Prius anywhere close to here, but there will be an abundance of Dodge Rams and Ford F-150's in the parking lot. They have a jukebox and pool table. This is a good old fashioned country bar with a lot of regulars no doubt, but a fun place.

Parks & Nature

Lassen Park is a must if you are staying for more than a few days. Just look up some good hikes depending on how much you want to work. There are some easy ones and difficult ones. We like Bumpass Hell and Paradise Meadow. Walking around Lake McCumber is nice, too. It's always about 15 degrees cooler up at Lassen, so it is a welcome break from the heat of the valley.

Essentials

Great grocery store that is just a 6 minute drive away. It's more of a local place and so prices will be a little higher than in central Redding, but it's worth it often since it's so close and it's really clean and well-kept.
