Food Scene

This is the only Real & Chateaux accredited hotel on the island. The service is efficient, friendly, civilised and discreet. Many members of staff have been there for well over a decade. Try lunch and afternoon tea in particular, but please bear in mind that they may be busy with their own guests at peak times.

Yes, it's expensive, but it has one of the most beautiful settings on the coast (not to say the world) and the food is excellent. There is nothing quite like it.

Fantastic views over the golf course to the sea. Wonderful place for lunch (see listing photographs). Next time I have a wedding reception, it'll be here!

Fresh fish from Smokie. Interesting range of very fresh fish, though doesn't exactly comply with EU regulations! But, fantastic fresh tuna, dolphin fish (mahi-mahi) snapper, swordfish, flying fish, grouper, kingfish, marlin, etc.

Drinks & Nightlife

This is a tin shack set in amongst the fishing boats, serving mainly rum and beer and, 3 nights a week, simple food cooked over a wooden fire. 4 beers are BD$10. There are locals and tourists alike, and somehow or another they manage to have the best sunsets on the island. This is Barbados, and I love it. It proves you can have a great time without spending a fortune, but that's not the main point: it's just....what it's all about.

Sightseeing

Underground lake, stalactites and stalagmites, and a film about the geology of Barbados. I find it interesting anyway.

A "great house", formerly a sugar plantation, with a working steam mill and a spectacular rum distillery. They show a very interesting film of Barbados about 100 years ago, and the place gives a feel for the life which was led in the past: https://www.stnicholasabbey.com. Contains stuff which actually works, mixed in with the semi-dilapidated charm of Barbados.

One of those things you must do: catamaran cruises, either swimming with the turtles or at sunset. Great fun for everyone. Food and booze included in the price of the ticket: https://www.coolrunningsbarbados.com

Well-stocked supermarket, with a lot of Waitrose branded items. Not much you can't get there, although the prices are higher than the UK
