This sauna has been the most authentic and relaxing experience among the several saunas I visited in Helsinki. You need to bring your own towel, by the way! They do not rent towels.

Traditionally people come here to wash their carpets with sea water. Today, most people leave their rugs at home and instead come to the dock to sunbathe, swim and have fun.

A very traditional public sauna in Kallio. It has 4,7 stars on Google Maps, so almost everybody likes it. If you want to see how the saunas used to be, then go here. The people are very social, and you are bound to end up talking with some locals (which might not always be the case in Finland).

The most beautiful swimming hall in Finland. Its amazing. Most people swim nude, but you are allowed to wear swimsuits also. Men and women swim on separate days. Be sure to check their website to see when its good for you to go. The swimming hall also has a great restaurant, and it is a memorable experience to eat proper restaurant food while dressed in a bathrobe :)

Helsinki Meat Packing District. Or Teurastamo, in Finnish (use the Finnish name if you need to ask somebody for directions there). There are lots of good restaurants, a few bars and normally at least some cultural events going on. There is also an outdoor grilling area, if you want to make your own food. Normally the grilling materials are provided. Just bring your own sausages (or buy them from the nearby Teurastamon Portti-butcher's shop).

City/town information

Want to see Santa and some reindeer? Go to Rovaniemi. It's far north. (There is a small tourist attraction in the south that has some reindeer. It's called Nuuksio Reindeer Park. The drive there takes about 45 minutes by car, or 1 h 15 minutes by public transport. Be sure to check the opening hours and pricing in advance. If you decide to go there, then I would recommend also going hiking in Nuuksio National park. Those activities together make for a nice day trip.)

Want to see the northern lights? You need to go way north! Try Saariselkä or Kilpisjärvi or some other location right at the top of Finland. Also, go during winter, since in the summer it will be too bright to see them. (It is possible to see Aurora Borealis in Helsinki too, but its super rare)
