Food scene

This is one of my favorite places to eat in Little Rock! The line is always out the door. This is a casual restaurant where you walk up to the counter to order and get a buzzer when your food is ready. The portions are very large and very tasty. You can pick your level of heat you want added to any meal. My favorite is the salmon with the fresh grilled zuchinni and red beans and rice side dishes. This restaurant has a cajun twist and also serves catfish (southern staple) and po'boy sandwiches. Don's miss this treat!

Just walking in the door gives you a robust smell of the smoky flavor that will be coming in your meal. This is an upscale eatery in downtown Little Rock. They have 32 beers and 20 different wines on tap. The meats and my favorite mushrooms are all prepared with a real wood fire and give it so much flavor.

Located inside the Clinton Presidential Library, this modern eatery has fantastic food. Prices are very reasonable and service is great. The outside patio has a lot of seating and overlooks the Arkansas River.

Sightseeing

Sept 4, 1957, nine African American students arrived at Central High School but were not allowed to enter the all white school. They were fighting for equal opportunity in education and challenged the segregation rules prevalent at that time. There is a wonderful monument on the capitol grounds on the north side next to the Liberty bell and the fountain.

City advice

Don't miss

Big Dam Bridge

Yes! That really is the name of the bridge... This is the longest pedestrian and bicycle bridge in the US! It has over 40 miles of scenic riverside trails to walk or bike. Its easy to see lots of wildlife along the trails, including birds, frogs, turtles, and deer. Plus there is plenty of fishing along the Arkansas River. Bicycles can be rented near the trail downtown. There are several viewing spots with benches along the top of the bridge and if you are lucky, you may be able to catch a barge travelling down the river and watch it go through the locks.
Don't miss

Burns Park

This is a 1700 acre park in North Little Rock. The park has 2 Tournament 18 hole golf courses, Funland Amusement Center, sports facilities, 2 disc golf courses, dog park, BMX track, tennis courts, playgrounds and camping areas as well as walking and biking trails throughout.
Don't miss

Hot Springs, Arkansas

This is a famous historic city featuring underground hot springs. It is a little over an hours drive from Little Rock. Bathhouse Row has 8 bathhouses dating from the 19th and 20th centuries. There are a lot of fun shops to visit in old downtown, plus Oaklawn Casino where you can watch horse racing and play a few games. If you enjoy antique shopping there are plenty of antique malls and flea markets to visit with great prices.
Don't miss

The Old Mill, North Little Rock

This is a replica of an 1880's water-powered grist mill. This is the site where the part of opening scenes in the movie "Gone With The Wind" was filmed. It is a popular sight for weddings and beautiful walks around the park and adjoining lake.
Don't miss

Greers Ferry Lake

Greers Ferry Lake is at the foot of the Ozark Mountains an hour north of Little Rock. There are a lot of parks around the lake to fish, swim, or boat. There are several marinas for boat rentals, food and supplies. Fishing can be done year round. The lake warms up around May and gets more like a hot bath around August. The water is clear and beautiful.
