Gastronomía

They are super friendly, food is good and it´s always packed for lunch. We like the espetos, grilled kefta, pipirrana salad, spanish omelette and of course their Cazuela de fideos which is amazing. Not cheap, wines outrageously expensive. 2022 edit: it seems like it will only be open in august and consequently have sized down in tables and staff. Service was slow. Hope it comes back to its usual self next year.

Technically a chiringuito but it´s actually one of the best restaurants in Costa del Sol which makes this quite a special place. During the day you can rent one of their beach beds and enjoy the great beach, or you can also have dinner at night. Food is fantastic, top quality products (we love their tuna brioche, puntillitas with fried egg and caviar and the ensaladilla with boquerones). Their rices are fabulous, especially the iberico. Reserve ahead as especially in the summer months it´s always full. Expensive.

Chef Dani Garcia´s glamorous fish tabern. Focus here is on fish and seafood , but here you can also try the "arroz con chuleta" (rice with sirloin steak) which is one of Garcia´s signature dishes. It´s always very animated but the service can be a bit hit and miss.

Inside the El Corte Ingles department store there are actually some gastronomy finds on the second floor like Palo Cortado for good spanish food (great ensaladilla, shrimp croquetas, tuna tartar) or Bistroman for oysters, mussels and champagne. The Gourmet Bar in the middle is also very good. Things to try in the Gourmet Experience store: Here you can buy Joselito iberico charcuterie, their ham is undoubtely one of the best (tip: "paleta" ham is a bit cheaper and actually tastier). And I´m a big fan of Joselito´s coppa which is amazing. Other delicatessen to try here are Casalba´s cecina (cured beef) which is fantastic on its own or with a bit of good olive oil and black pepper or Benfumat smoked salmon and cod. The selection of worldwide cheeses is pretty good, one of my favourites is Dehesa de los Llanos manchego cheese made with unpasteurised sheep's milk.

One of the classic Marbella taberns, located in small street near Plaza de los Naranjos, newly refurbished and under new management but still great. Tomato salad in the summer is a must as are the fried boquerones and sardines. Also very good are the croquetas, octopus, the oxtail and the home boiled ham. Moderate prices.

Considered by many one of the best japanese restaurants in Spain, if you like japanese food you can´t miss this one. Everything is fantastic here, the tasting menu is a good option is you want to try a bit of everything. It is expensive though and the dishes are not big so not the best place to go if you´re really hungry :-)

New in the area and a great surprise. The place is beautiful with a clubby vibe. The food is mainly spanish with some fussion touches, focused on great quality products. The aged grilled meat is fantastic and we also enjoyed the pasta with clams and the grilled fish. Food prices are reasonable for the quality but the drinks are on the expensive side.

Former chef from El Ancla and La Milla has taken over the restaurant inside the El Campanario Golf club in Estepona (aprox. 10 minute car ride from the apartment). The place is pretty and calm, it´s a great spot for a leisurely lunch. And the food is sensational, don´t miss the various fried fish (squid, puntillitas, boquerones, etc) as it´s one of the best we´ve ever had. Rices, fish and meat are also very good. Prices are lower than at El Ancla or La Milla which makes this a very attractive option and one of our new favourite places.

Información sobre la ciudad

Spanish food restaurants Famous one, beautiful place, good fish, though expensive: El Ancla in San Pedro de Alcántara. Beautiful chiringuito open also at night: Trocadero Playa, next to Marbella Club. La Milla Marbella is tecnically a chiringuito but it´s actually more like a fine food restaurant. One of the best restaurants in Malaga, fantastic produce, also opens at night. Reserve ahead as it´s always full. Expensive. Up in La Campana: Arenal, not fancy but great food and seafood and non touristy Also in La Campana: Sidrería Manolo, great northern food if you want a change (fish northern way is great too) In San Pedro, beach promenade or close. If you fancy walking these are about 20-30 minutes walk from the apartment. Marabierta, great fish and paellas. Kala Kalua and Nuevo Reino. Same owner, Kala Kalua is a bit more casual but both are good for fish. In San Pedro town: From the same owners of La Milla above, Bar Guerra is a classic tabern with great tapas. Gets full so either go early or late to avoid waiting lines. In Marbella old town: La Niña del Pisto (great tapas and fried fish), and the one right in front of it is good too. All these places are mainly for Spanish people, always wonder why tourists never try them:-) Lobito de Mar in front of Marbella Club hotel is a fantastic fish place too! Bibo in Puente Romano is great for spanish tapas and the scene. Puente Romano is one of the best hotels in Marbella so going to one of the restaurants there or to the open bar for a drink is a great way to check it out and see a bit of the Marbella glamour. Havana in Puerto Banus is great for paellas but since it´s also a bar and gets packed in the evening we prefer to have lunch and it´s a great setting in between the docks. Paradise Beach is on the other side of the Puerto (Playa Levante) and it´s right on the beach. Great setting and good spanish tapas but service can be slow in high season. Other places we like Breathe which is within walking distance is a really beautiful place with different dining options: café (v. good pizzas), fancy restaurant and roof top bar Txoco in Puerto Banus. Very good spanish food, the meat from El Capricho is exceptional. If you are into meat then Tango, an argentinian restaurant in Puerto Banus is always a good choice. Incontro is our favourite italian in Puerto Banus (Cristamar) Casanis in Marbella old town. French brasserie in one of the most beautiful streets of Marbella. Always full so book ahead. The also have a chiringuito La Plage by Casanis which is good too Sakura in Puerto Banus is the most reliable of the japanese restaurants in the area. Chiringuitos Within walking distance there are a few good ones: Pedro´s Beach, they are super friendly, they serve great food and it´s always packed for lunch. Not cheap though. And two famous ones that are more like day time clubs (live music, people dancing, party atmosphere: La Sala Beach (to the right of Andalucia del Mar, in front of Pedro´s) Ocean Club which is literally on the doorstep of Andalucia del Mar If you want to experience other fashionable chiringuitos/day clubs: Bono Beach is one of our favourites as the beach is great, the food is good, the atmosphere is fun but not as "clubby" as the others. There´s also a Nikki Beach if you really want full glam day scene, but it´s expensive. Drinks in Puerto Banus Sinatra Bar is an institution and it happens to have pretty reasonable prices for the Puerto. Always full Martini Bar inside the Dolce & Gabbana store is very glam, and great views of the Puerto. Not cheap. Astral is another classic. Fun and great drinks
