Big city level coffee in the heart of little Keene Valley with friendly service. While the coffee is a treat, the food might be better. Chris gets the turkey sandwich, Lisa likes the rueben, but if you are daring, order The Ron!

You don't have to get The Boss Hog, but we think you should. Moules Frites (with waffle fries) is also a surprising and well executed offering. The pretty 10-minute drive along the Ausable River to get here is a nice experience.

ADIRONDACK COFFEE CAFE Our favorite greasy spoon diner for humble and delicious breakfast/lunch fare. The cafe is located in Upper Jay in a charming building with indoor and outdoor seating. The omelets are large, the corned beef hash is top notch. Don't leave without a pastry or fudge. Bonus: They roast their own beans and sell coffee by the pound on-site for a reasonable price.

A bit of a drive, but worth the trip.
A fantastic ever-changing menu. Fairly elevated fare with great cocktails and a jovial atmosphere. A scenic 15-minute drive to Elizabethtown. Also a nice place to play pool.

This is a good version of your typical brewpub just outside Lake Placid. Above average beer and hearty post-hike food. It gets busy, so it's an especially good option for a late lunch or early dinner.

Shopping

Right in downtown Keene, this store has a wide variety of housewares and decor in the "Great Camp" style native to the Adirondacks (both vintage and new.) Dartbrook is a fun spot to visit even without making any purchases, but expect to pay a pretty penny for anything you might want to buy. They also operate Dartbrook South which is located just two doors down.
