You can walk from St Ives to Carbis Bay or further onto Lelant and stop for some lunch before either walking back or catching the train along the pretty branchline which hugs the coast the whole way.

The south west coast path route from St Ives to Zennor has breathtaking scenery but its not an easy walk and requires a level of fitness. You can walk an inland version which crosses many granite stiles which is easier than the coastal version but would not be suitable for young children. Lunch and a pint at The Tinners Arms is well earned and thoroughly enjoyable in their bar area. You can catch a bus back to St Ives but check the timetable as they are not very frequent.
