Sightseeing
Because it’s so close, this is a beloved spot for our family. Canyon Rim Trail to Turkey Spur is one of our favorite trails. It starts at the majestic Grandview Overlook and features great views, and moderate terrain. Some portions are delightfully shaded with rhododendrons, and you’re guaranteed to see some wildlife along the way.

There are lots of great trails at Little Beaver State Park (10 minutes’ drive). Our favorites are Rhododendron Run and Deer Trail Loop, Laurel Creek Loop, and Beaver Creek to Black Bear Trail. This park also has fishing ( you’ll need a fishing license https://wvdnr.gov/buy-a-license/ ) and paddle boats, playground equipment, picnic areas, and Beaver Creek flowing through.

Visit the New River Gorge Bridge! It's definitely something special to experience and is one of the most well known sights to see in West Virginia. About 30 minutes from the cottage.

Great for kids, it doesn’t take long to complete and on a hot day, it’s nice to be by the water. In order to make a full day of it, bring a picnic and eat by the raging New River, then try out the Big Branch Trail that is close by and undiscovered by many. This is a moderately challenging hike with several streams to cross and waterfalls to encounter. Well worth the work, in our opinion! It’s rare to come across other hikers here, so you’ll truly feel close to nature. A hidden gem!

The lake has canoes, kayaks and paddleboats, as well as inflatables for swimming and play. Take the cable car down the mountain for a magical meal at Mountain Creek Restaurant to round out your day. Plenty to fill a day and make wonderful memories!

Additiionally, Fayetteville has as other nearby attractions worth exploring such as white water rafting, treetop tours, climbing, hiking, and ACE Adventure Lake.
