Paradera Area

Neighbourhoods

Paradera is located in the central northeastern part of the island, comprising the areas of Shiribana, Ayo, Bloemond, and Piedra Plat. The Hooiberg, meaning “haystack” in Dutch, is the cone-shaped mountain that rises 540 feet up from the center of the Island. The 550-plus steps on the side of the mountain lead to breathtaking panoramic views of Aruba. While the entire Island is peppered with huge diorite boulders, Casibari Boulders and Ayo Rock Formations boast the most remarkable collections. Arawak Indian rock drawings decorate the monolithic stones of Ayo, providing evidence of the great importance these rocks held for the Island's early inhabitants. The Roman Catholic Church in this district, Santa Filomena, is an oft-photographed structure that stands tall among the surrounding neighborhood architecture, horse ranches, and local businesses of Paradera.
