Great terrasse, often full in the evening, perfect calm location in the middle of the art galleries. Easy, one block from the house where Champollion translated the hieroglyphs, on the old wall of medieval Paris. 2 minutes from the best view of Paris (Pont des arts).

Great location. Always good to have a drink on the terrace there. Nothing special, just a great place, always full of young people. Fun to watch people in the bar and the ones passing in the street. Auguste Comte lived a few meters from there. Alternative, calmer: Les Editeurs. Same square.

Les Deux-Magots I like to have breakfast there, on the side opposite the church, on a sunny day. Good for tourists, but also Parisians. Better view than Café de Flore, which is better for a glass of Pouilly-Fuissé in the evening.

Sartre wrote many books there, and existentialism birthplace. There were jazz clubs around (they almost all disappeared). Good to have a drink late in the evening. A very nice bookshop next to it. And Louis Vuitton. Choose your preference.

Good restaurant by a great chef: modern French cuisine from South-West France. Better to book in advance on the weekends. Same location as Hibou and Editeurs (see under). In addition, next to it, l’avant-comptoir de la mer is a great place to eat fish/oysters/seafood (more tapas size) and drink good wine. Always crowded and noisy, but fun. Very Parisian.

Great place! Perfect location, outside. It looks ugly, but it is very good and fun. One of the best places to eat small but very good things (very serious cook) and drink and talk. Amazing bread, very fresh products from South-west of France. Very diverse (the food, not like Harvard would understand that word). Only drawback: mainly highchairs, often very booked. Easy to drink and eat too much. Behind the restaurant, is a very small cover market (actually, it has existed for more than 1000 years). In front, a good wine bar: Compagnie des vins surnaturels.

If you feel like an Italian restaurant because you forgot that you booked Paris and not Rome, it is good. Elegant, simple, real Italians, many actors, and politics there every day, wonderful linguine alla vongole. The veal is also an option. The antipasti are amazing.

Because you are a tourist, you should go to the oldest café globally. Incredible place, like a museum. A cool history: Voltaire, Rousseau, and all the revolutionary people were meeting there. Don’t miss the small street behind it: a great way to imagine what was Paris before Haussman.

Old brasserie, beautiful inside. The guy placing you will decide if you are elegant enough or not. Simple: if you are seated in the back of the restaurant, it is because you wear flip-flops. Take the choucroute and the mille-feuille. Nothing wonderful, but very old-fashioned, elegant and nice. A classic.
