Carlton Beach Life

Life's a beach!

All these spots are within a ten minute drive of the Surf Shack. Each beach has its own character, weather and wildlife. Beaches are seldom crowded in Tasmania which encourages the non-human locals to roam: birds, seals, dolphins and even whales!
One of Tasmania's best surf beaches with spectacular sunset views towards Hobart's mountain kunanyi. Great for long walks and exploring the dune pathways. Popular for swimming, surfing, boogie boarding, stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking. There are beautiful shells along the beach and sometimes pods of dolphins out in the sea. At the one end of the bay is the Carlton River mouth, and at the other is Park Beach, both popular with surfers.

Lewisham looks across the channel to the Seven Mile Beach dunes. There's a lovely foreshore walk through casuarina trees, along the rocks and along the beach.

The 'river road' as we call it takes you on a 15 minute walk down to a lagoon and wetlands with lots of bird and frog life. Then you reach the Carlton river mouth with its clear waters. A popular spot for supping and surfing, but please note the strong current warnings.
