With the beautiful Whanganui River running right through the middle of town there are so many spot to enjoy this special local attraction!!
This is worth the climb up the 76 steps of the 33.5m War Memorial Tower to enjoy the spectacular view of the beautiful river city. Catch this on a nice day and you will spot Mt Taranaki and Mt Ruapehu There's another lookout atop the lift machinery housing (just 41 steps).

Built in 1919, The Durie Hill Elevator is New Zealand’s only public transport elevator and is still used on a daily basis by locals and visitors. Access is through a long pedestrian tunnel. You’ll be welcomed aboard the elevator for the 66-metre ride to the top of the hill. The ride costs $2 (each way) for adults, $1 for children and eftpos is available. The elevator operates 8am-6pm weekdays, 10am-5pm weekends and public holidays and is open every day except Christmas day.

There are always alot of interesting stalls at the market. It's a great spot to get fresh and locally grown products. perfect to grab breakfast ir brunch and enjoy it beside the river.
