What to see, where to eat in the Porta Venezia district
The Milan Porta Venezia neighbourhood ranks 35th in the list of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world, drawn up by Time Out magazine in 2020. This neighbourhood is where locals go for an aperitif and buy the finest antiques and vintage clothing. With this motivation, Time Out magazine has crowned Porta Venezia among the forty coolest neighbourhoods in the world. Porta Venezia (formerly Porta Orientale until 1860) is one of the six main gates of Milan, built along the Spanish ramparts, now demolished. The two square buildings, surrounded on three sides by arcades, are the ancient toll booths, that is the place where the collection of duties took place against those who, with goods or without goods, wanted to enter the city. Located in the heart of the Milanese Liberty, the Porta Venezia area includes the Public Gardens dedicated to Indro Montanelli and some of the most famous shopping streets, such as Corso Buenos Aires. It is in this district that the famous style closely linked to French Art Nouveau boasts its most extraordinary testimonies, thanks above all to the homes of bourgeois families that can be admired by organising a relaxing walk.
